In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Generac iQ5200DF provides a 120V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,900W and a starting wattage of 5,200W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 3,500 running watts and 4,700 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) allows for increasing of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and reliability for diverse needs.
This inverter generator offers two starting options: a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism and an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included).
As for its running time, the iQ5200DF, along with its 3.2 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 15 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.21 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 20 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.24 GPH).
The iQ5200DF ensures a clean sine wave output, boasting <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to protect your sensitive electronics when connected to its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) perfect for conveniently charging mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Even if this Generac generator isn't quite RV Ready, it still allows for an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor, thanks to its L5-30R receptacle.
Portability
The Generac iQ5200DF's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L24.6 x W20.3 x H22.5 in) provides an aesthetic advantage and contributes to quieter operation compared to any ordinary, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
With a weight of 107 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. Still, once it is on the ground, its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
To help you monitor the iQ5200DF's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a digital data center, giving you information on the power output and lifetime run hours.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
The iQ5200DF also benefits from Generac’s COsense® carbon monoxide monitoring. This technology senses and manages CO output and shuts down the unit when necessary, to protect you from CO poisoning.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Generac iQ5200DF also comes with several accessories, including: oil, tool kit, funnel and propane hose.
The Generac iQ5200DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac iQ5200DF compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 107 lbs, the Generac iQ5200DF belongs in the expected weight range for inverters which can produce between 3500 and 4500 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC with only 58.4 pounds.
- At a 25% load, the iQ5200DF offers up to 15 hours of runtime on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among inverter generators of similar power level. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Firman W03661OF, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting up to 25 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. This inverter generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 0.21 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Champion 201319. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.16 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Generac iQ5200DF is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
