Zoom on the Generac GP2500i

In summary, the Generac GP2500i is a compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:

  • Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
  • Amateur DIY lovers

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Generac GP2500i in use

The Generac GP2500i

The Generac GP2500i's engine, 98 cc OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120V. It provides a running wattage of 2200W and reaches a peak wattage of 2500W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (7118 parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included), its power may be doubled if linked to a second compatible unit.

This inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism.

The GP2500i can operate for up to 8 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.13 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 1 gallon.

The GP2500i generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

Additionally, it features 3 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient and a 12V 8A receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.

Portability

The Generac GP2500i's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L19.7 x W11.4 x H17.9 in), provides an esthetical advantage over any ordinary, open frame product. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.

Weighing just 48 lbs, the GP2500i can be considered a lightweight portable generator. As it can be moved by a single person without much effort, the generator and its power can be enjoyed on-the-go. This convenience is further enhanced thanks to its handle (molded in the case) that allows you to carry it with ease.

Features

When the oil level is too low, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Generac GP2500i also comes with several accessories, including: funnel, battery charging cables, oil and tool kit.

Emissions

The Generac GP2500i is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The Generac GP2500i versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac GP2500i compare to generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • In terms of its dry weight, the Generac GP2500i stands at only 48 lbs, meaning that is one of the lighter devices of the 1500-2500 rated wattage category If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Champion 200949, weighing just 38.6 pounds.
  • As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 8 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the GP2500i falls into the low end in comparison with other devices of a comparable power output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Westinghouse WGen2000, boasting with up to 26 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. Compared to its peers, this inverter generator is not exactly fuel efficient, compared to similarly powerful devices, with an estimated fuel consumption of 0.13 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Predator 2000, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.08 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

Drinks gas at anything past idle which is any load over 5 amps
EXTREMELY NOISY!! Even with light load. I placed it 30 ft from my camper with the exhaust pointed away and it kept me up all night. If I could get all my money back on this, I would do it and buy a better one that wasn’t so noisy. Had one years ago that was so quiet I couldn’t hear it at all from 30 ft
