Power & Run Time
Featuring a 212 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke engine, the Generac iQ3500 operates using gasoline, providing 120V, with a running wattage of 3,000W and a starting wattage of 3,500W. Furthermore, the parallel capability (Generac 7668 Parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) offers the advantage of doubling power output when connected to another similar or compatible unit, delivering expanded energy capacity and flexibility for various applications.
This inverter generator offers two starting options: a conventional pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). It features Generac's PowerDial™, an easy-to-use dial with three operation settings.
With its 2.6 gallons fuel tank, the iQ3500 can operate for up to 14.1 hours when fully fueled (with fuel usage averaging around 0.18 GPH).
The iQ3500 generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports ideal for charging various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.
While not classified as 'RV Ready,' this Generac generator can still provides the advantage of RV connection via its L5-30R receptacle, ensuring power supply to your RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.
Portability
Since the Generac iQ3500 is an inverter generator, its closed design (L23.7 x W18 x H21.7 in) not only provides an aesthetic advantage but also contributes to reduced noise levels compared to conventional, open frame devices. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 109.1 pounds. Thus, to enhance the generator's mobility, it is worth considering purchasing a wheel kit, such as this one (opens in a new tab).
Features
To help you monitor the iQ3500's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a digital data center, giving you information on the power output, remaining run time, fuel level and lifetime run hours.
In addition to this info, several light indicators serve to show you when the generator is ready, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is overloaded.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
The iQ3500 also benefits from Generac’s COsense® carbon monoxide monitoring. This technology senses and manages CO output and shuts down the unit when necessary, to protect you from CO poisoning.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Generac iQ3500 also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, oil and funnel.
The Generac iQ3500 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac iQ3500 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- Tipping the scales at 109.1 lbs, the Generac iQ3500 qualifies as one of the heavier options among inverter generators rated between 2500 and 3500 watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 46 pounds.
- At 25% load, the iQ3500 boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful inverters, reaching up to 14.1 hours. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Champion 200977 could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching up to 22 hours.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. The inverter generator utilizes approximately 0.18 GPH of gasoline at a 25% load, placing it within the typical range of fuel consumption seen in products of comparable wattage. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the Honda EU3200i is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.14 gallons per hour.
Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W inverter generators, the Generac iQ3500 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- COsense® technology

User Reviews
My review is a bit premature as I haven’t run it in “real world” conditions yet.I have only run it for an hour to break it in.
I have 90 hours on mine and started to smoke. Called service to buy piston rings. They don’t have the parts. Don’t know how th get them.
Fired right up, out of the box, battery connected, oil and fuel added. two quick pushes on the electric starter swithch and it was up and running.
