Description
Zoom on the Generac GP3300i
To sum up, the Generac GP3300i is a compact and lightweight portable inverter generator tailored for:
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Generac GP3300i operates with a 149 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, with a running wattage of 2,500W and a peak wattage of 3,300W. Additionally, as the generator is parallel capable (parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included), it can be linked to a second unit for more power.
This inverter generator gets running thanks to a manual recoil starter system. It features Generac's PowerDial™, an easy-to-use dial with three operation settings.
Featuring a 1.06 gallon fuel tank, the GP3300i can provide power for up to 7 hours on a full tank (with fuel consumption averaging 0.15 gallons per hour).
The GP3300i generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.
This Generac generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.
Portability
As the Generac GP3300i is an inverter generator, its encased design (L22.2 x W13.3 x H18.4 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
The 59.5 lbs of the GP3300i's dry weight enables you to use it anywhere you will ever need. Moreover, the convenient handle (molded in the case) greatly enhances the grip, ensuring that carrying the GP3300i from A to B is always an easy task.
Features
The device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the oil level is too low, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
The GP3300i also benefits from Generac’s COsense® carbon monoxide monitoring. This technology senses and manages CO output and shuts down the unit when necessary, to protect you from CO poisoning.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Generac GP3300i, the following accessories are also included: funnel, tool kit and oil.

The Generac GP3300i versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac GP3300i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2000 and 3000 W).
- When it comes to weight, the Generac GP3300i tips the scales at just 59.5 pounds, making it one of the lighter inverter generators in the 2000 to 3000 rated wattage range. If you are mindful of weight, the WEN 56280iX is among the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 41.9 pounds.
- The GP3300i's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only up to 7 hours at 25% load on a full tank. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Honda EU3000iS could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching up to 20 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. The inverter generator utilizes approximately 0.15 GPH of gasoline at a 25% load, placing it within the typical range of fuel consumption seen in products of comparable wattage. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen2800, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.08 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

What is the noise rating of the GP3300i?
Due to the lack of standardization in noise emission measurement, Generac does not provide their units' noise levels.
Can a 3300i be used on a RV that has a surge guard that is hard wired. (Asked June 23, 2021)
The unit has a floating neutral. Your surge guard protection device may detect this as an open ground condition and not allow power to pass through. In that case, you may need to bond the neutral.
