Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Generac GP2200i operates with a 80 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, with a running wattage of 1,700W and a peak wattage of 2,200W. Furthermore, the parallel capability (GP2200i Parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) offers the advantage of doubling power output when connected to another similar or compatible unit, delivering expanded energy capacity and flexibility for various applications.
This inverter generator starts operation using a manual recoil starter system.
Thanks to its 1.2 gallon fuel tank, the GP2200i can run continuously for up to 10.75 hours on a full tank (with an average fuel consumption of approximately 0.11 GPH).
Featuring a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the GP2200i delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 2 AC outlets:
Moreover, it boasts 2 DC outlets: there's a 12V 8A receptacle making battery charging a breeze and a 5V USB port enabling convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets.
Portability
As an inverter generator, the Generac GP2200i showcases a closed design (L19.7 x W11.4 x H17.9 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring quieter operation compared to conventional, open frame models. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
With a weight of only 46.6 lbs, the GP2200i is deisgned to be a lightweight and easily portable generator. With its manageable weight, one person can easily move it around, ensuring power wherever needed. Further convenience is provided by its handle (molded in the case), as it allows you to carry it with great ease.
Features
Light indicators on the device will notify you if the generator is ready, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is on overload.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Generac GP2200i's package also includes these accessories: oil and funnel.

The Generac GP2200i versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac GP2200i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- At 46.6 lbs in dry weight, the Generac GP2200i fits well within the typical weight bracket for inverter generators producing 1500 to 2500 rated watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Genmax GM2000i is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 34.2 pounds.
- At a 25% load, the GP2200i offers up to 10.75 hours of runtime on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among inverter generators of similar power level. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Yamaha EF2800i, boasting with up to 14.7 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. With a fuel usage of about 0.11 GPH at a 25% load, this inverter generator falls within the typical gasoline consumption range observed in comparably powerful products. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Westinghouse iGen2800, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.08 gallons per hour.

User Reviews
This generator has been the most unreliable generator I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned several. I do not recommend anything portable Generac.
I bought the Generac 2200i a few years ago to prepare for hurricane season. Until Ida I had only used it twice for about a total of 10 hours. After Ida I ran it for about 4 days and burned less than 7 gallons of fuel.
Most of the daytime I was only running the refrigerator/freezer combo and a couple of fans, and (the tv and chargeable electronics I had plugged into a UPS which was then connected to the generator). At night I ran a few lamps with LED bulbs and a portable AC unit which draws about 700kw.
During the afternoon I would try to give it a few hours break while I was doing yard cleanup and I gave it a break in the morning between when it ran out of gas and when the heat forced me out of bed. The generator would run all day and still have gas in it when I filled it up for the night shift. At night it was running for just over 7 hours on what I would estimate at 60% load.
It ran almost everything we needed. Air fryer, coffee maker, blender, toaster, hair dryer all ran no problem. The only limitations were the microwave overloaded it and testing the AC on my neighbors old travel trailer was too much.
The best thing was that all my neighbors were out looking for gas after about 2 days for their large generators and I hadn’t even gone through half of a 5 gallon can of gas. It is also very quiet.
I changed the oil at just over 20 hours total as recommended for first oil change and I definitely say by how dirty it was that should not be skipped. I then changed it again at just under 50 hours as recommended going forward and it wasn’t really that bad.
It did get some direct sunlight one afternoon when I wasn’t paying attention. The generator was definitely hotter than usual but ran fine. After that I put it under a beach umbrella and it stayed much cooler.
I’m definitely very pleased with this generator in real life usage. It ran everything I needed and made life much easier until the power came back on. If I was going to change something I would be add another half gallon to the tank size to run a bit longer under higher load.
