Description
Zoom on the Generac iQ2000
In summary, the Generac iQ2000 is a compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Generac iQ2000's engine, 80 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120V. It provides a running wattage of 1,600W and reaches a peak wattage of 2,000W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (iQ2000 Parallel Kit (opens in a new tab) not included), its power may be doubled if linked to a second compatible unit.
This inverter generator gets running thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism. It features Generac's PowerDial™, an easy-to-use dial with three operation settings.
The iQ2000 can operate for up to 7.7 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.14 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 1.06 gallon.
The iQ2000 produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Portability
Since the Generac iQ2000 is an inverter generator, its closed design (L20 x W12.6 x H16.9 in) has an esthetical advantage over conventional, open frame devices. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
The iQ2000 is a lightweight, portable generator, as it only weighs 46.5 lbs. As it can be moved by a single person without much effort, the generator and its power can be enjoyed on-the-go. Further convenience is provided by its handle (molded in the case), as it allows you to carry it effortlessly.
Features
One of the many iQ2000's features is the data center, included in its control panel, which conveniently provides information on the fuel level, remaining run time and power output (via the PowerBar™) and thus, helps you monitor its activity and status.
In addition to this info, when the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and the oil level is too low, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.
The fuel level of the inverter generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Generac iQ2000 also comes with several accessories, including: oil and funnel. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Emissions
The Generac iQ2000 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The Generac iQ2000 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac iQ2000 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Having a dry weight of 46.5 lbs, the Generac iQ2000 belongs in the expected weight range for inverter generators which produce 1500 to 2500 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of only 34.2 lbs.
- Autonomy-wise, with up to 7.7 hours on a full tank at a 25% load, the iQ2000 is on the low end when compared to other inverter generators of a similar power output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Yamaha EF2800i, boasting with up to 14.7 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. In fact, this inverter generator is not among the most fuel efficient, within the aforementioned wattage range : its estimated gasoline consumption at 25% load is around 0.14 GPH. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.08 GPH, the DuroMax XP2300iH is a device you could look out for.
