Description
Zoom on the Generac iQ2000
In summary, the Generac iQ2000 is a compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Generac iQ2000's core is the 80 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120V, it provides a running wattage of 1,600W and a peak wattage of 2,000W. In addition, as it is parallel capable (iQ2000 Parallel Kit (opens in a new tab) not included), this power can be doubled when linked to another similar or compatible unit.
This inverter generator is started via a simple traditional pull-start mechanism. It features Generac's PowerDial™, an easy-to-use dial with three operation settings.
With a full tank, the iQ2000 can operate for up to 7.7 hours (fuel consumption around 0.14 GPH), thanks to its fuel capacity of 1.06 gallon.
The iQ2000 produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 2 AC outlets:
Portability
Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L20 x W12.6 x H16.9 in), the Generac iQ2000, is more esthetical than a typical, open frame generator. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
Weighing just 46.5 lbs, the iQ2000 can be considered a lightweight portable generator. As it can be moved by a single person without much effort, the generator and its power can be enjoyed on-the-go. Its handle (molded in the case) allows you to carry it easily, further enhancing its convenience.
Features
The control panel of the iQ2000 includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the remaining run time, power output (via the PowerBar™) and fuel level.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.
The inverter generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Generac iQ2000 also comes with some accessories: funnel and oil are included. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Emissions
The Generac iQ2000 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and thus, may be used in forested areas.

The Generac iQ2000 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac iQ2000 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- With a dry weight of 46.5 pounds, the Generac iQ2000 finds itself in the expected weight range for inverter generators able to produce between 1500 and 2500 rated watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of just 34.2 pounds.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 7.7 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the iQ2000 falls into the low end in comparison with other inverters of a comparable power output. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Yamaha EF2800i, which is able to run for up to 14.7 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank’s capacity and thus, doesn’t say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator is somewhat less fuel efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 0.14 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the DuroMax XP2300iH, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.08 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
