Zoom on the Generac XG10000E

In summary, the Generac XG10000E is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure.

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The Generac XG10000E in use

The Generac XG10000E

The Generac XG10000E's core is the 530 cc (18 hp) Generac OHVI 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120/240V, it provides a running wattage of 10,000W and a peak wattage of 12,500W.

The generator features a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

The XG10000E can operate for around 10 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 1 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 10 gallons.

Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the XG10000E generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

While this Generac generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XG10000E is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.

Portability

The Generac XG10000E has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L31.2 x W29.5 x H31.3 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 300 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.

Features

The XG10000E's control panel

Monitoring of the XG10000E's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the lifetime run hours and power output (via the PowerBar™) and is one of the features of its control panel. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.

A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.

As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Generac XG10000E also comes with some accessories: oil and tool kit are included.

Emissions

The Generac XG10000E is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

However, it features a spark arrestor and thus, may be used in forested areas.

The Generac XG10000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac XG10000E compare to generators of similar power (between 9500 and 10500 W).

  • At a dry weight of 300 pounds, the Generac XG10000E is one of the heavier devices which can produce between 9500 and 10500 running watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Rainier R12000DF with only 196 pounds.
  • The XG10000E, offering a run time of around 10 hours with a full tank at a 50% load, falls within the average autonomy range when compared to its peers. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Powerhorse 13000ES, reaching around 15 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. In fact, this generator is not among the most fuel efficient, within the aforementioned wattage range : its estimated gasoline consumption at 50% load is around 1 GPH. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.55 GPH, the Rainier R12000DF is a device you could look out for.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Generac XG10000E vs DuroMax XP10000E.
