Zoom on the Generac XG10000E
In a nutshell, the Generac XG10000E is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment.
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Generac XG10000E's design includes a gasoline-fueled 530 cc Generac OHVI 4-stroke engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 10000W and also a peak wattage of 12500W.
This generator is started via a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).
Thanks to a fuel capacity of 10 gallons, the XG10000E can operate for around 10 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 1 GPH).
As the XG10000E produces a clean sine wave, with a <5% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD), sensitive electronics may be plugged in the AC outlets safely.
The control panel features the upcoming 7 AC outlets:
This Generac generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XG10000E is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.
The design of the Generac XG10000E is a typical, open frame, with the dimensions of L31.2 x W29.5 x H31.3 in, offering support and stability and enabling the possibility of raising it above ground level. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Since the generator weighs 300 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
A digital data center, one of the features of the XG10000E's control panel, gives you information on the power output (via the PowerBar™) and lifetime run hours, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during night time, the panel is LED-lit.
Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Generac XG10000E, the following accessories are also included: tool kit and oil.
The Generac XG10000E is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.
However, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.
The Generac XG10000E versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac XG10000E compare to generators of similar power (between 9500 and 10500 W).
- Considering its dry weight of 300 pounds, the Generac XG10000E is one of the heavier generators producing between 9500 and 10500 running watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Rainier R12000DF, with a dry weight of only 196 lbs.
- The XG10000E, offering a run time of around 10 hours with a full tank at a 50% load, falls within the average autonomy range when compared to its peers. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Powerhorse 13000ES, with around 15 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. Compared to its peers, this generator is not exactly fuel efficient, compared to similarly powerful devices, with an estimated fuel consumption of 1 GPH at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse WGen9500DF, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.55 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 9500-10500W generators, the Generac XG10000E is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
The bottom line
- Illuminated control panel
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- Clean sine wave
- Decent run time
- On the expensive side
- No recoil back-up
- No remote start
- Not CARB-compliant
- On the heavy side (300 lbs)
- Low fuel efficiency
