Zoom on the Generac XG10000E

In a few words, the Generac XG10000E is a powerful portable generator perfectly suited for professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure..

Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.

Power & Run Time

The Generac XG10000E in use

The Generac XG10000E

Generac XG10000E is equipped with a 530 cc (18 hp) Generac OHVI 4-stroke engine, running on gasoline and providing 120/240V, boasting a running wattage of 10,000W alongside a starting wattage of 12,500W.

Its starting mechanism relies on a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).

The XG10000E boasts a fuel tank capable of holding 10 gallons, allowing it to run continuously for around 10 hours at 50% load (with fuel usage averaging around 1 gallons per hour).

Featuring a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the XG10000E delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

While this Generac generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, thanks to its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XG10000E is transfer switch ready, facilitating easy hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.

Portability

At L31.2 x W29.5 x H31.3 in, the Generac XG10000E boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Despite its weight of 300 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.

Features

Panel of the Generac XG10000E

The XG10000E's control panel

Embedded in the control panel of the XG10000E, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the lifetime run hours and power output (via the PowerBar™) to aid in monitoring activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.

A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.

Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Generac XG10000E also is packed along with the following accessories: oil and tool kit.

The Generac XG10000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac XG10000E compare to generators of similar power (between 9500 and 10500 W).

  • Weighing 300 lbs, the Generac XG10000E is one of the heavier generators within the 9500-10500 rated wattage bracket. If you are mindful of weight, the Westinghouse WGen9500TFc is among the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 203.4 pounds.
  • The XG10000E's runtime of around 10 hours at a 50% load on a full tank positions it within the average autonomy range compared to other generators with similar power. If run time is one of your main concerns, the Powerhorse 13000ES could be worth looking at. It boasts one of the highest run times among units of comparable power, lasting around 15 hours.
  • Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. This generator is rather wasteful, compared to other devices within the aforementioned output range, when it comes to gasoline consumption, as it reaches roughly 1 GPH at a 50% load. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the Westinghouse WGen9500TFc EFI is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.66 gallons per hour.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Generac XG10000E vs DuroMax XP10000E.
