Description

Zoom on the Ford FG11050PE

To sum up, the Ford FG11050PE is a powerful portable generator tailored for:

  • Homeowners who wish to power almost all appliances in their house under any circumstances
  • Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
  • RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.

Power & Run Time

The Ford FG11050PE in use

The Ford FG11050PE

The Ford FG11050PE's core is the 457 cc Ducar OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120/240V, it provides a running wattage of 9,000W and a peak wattage of 11,050W.

The generator, rated for a noise of 78 dBA (less noisy than a dishwasher), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included).

With its 6.6 gallons fuel tank, the FG11050PE can operate for around 9.5 hours at 50% load when fully fueled (with fuel usage averaging around 0.69 GPH).

Outlets

The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

With its 14-50R outlet, this Ford unit is RV-ready for owners with a 50-amp service in their RVs.

Portability

At L30 x W29.3 x H25 in, the standard open frame design of the Ford FG11050PE delivers stability alongside easy maintenance access to components and good air cooling. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

Despite its weight of 218 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.

Features

The FG11050PE's control panel

A digital data center, one of the features of the FG11050PE's control panel, gives you information on the lifetime run hours, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.

The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.

In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the Ford FG11050PE also includes several accessories: tool kit, funnel and oil.

The Ford FG11050PE versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Ford FG11050PE compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • At 218 lbs in dry weight, the Ford FG11050PE fits well within the typical weight bracket for generators producing 8500 to 9500 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, with a dry weight of only 187.4 lbs.
  • In comparison to generators with a similar running wattage, this generator's lowest emitted noise of 78 dBA can be considered noisy. If you value reduced noise levels, the DuroMax XP11000iHT could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
  • The FG11050PE's runtime of around 9.5 hours at a 50% load on a full tank positions it within the average autonomy range compared to other generators with similar power. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 12 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. With an estimated gasoline consumption of 0.69 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this generator is among the more fuel-efficient of the products in the above-mentioned wattage range. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.66 GPH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8500-9500W generators, the Ford FG11050PE is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Ford

Even though Ford is most commonly known for Henry Ford's Ford Motor Company, the historically renowned US-based car manufacturer founded in 1903, its trademark appears on various other products, including power equipment. Ford Power Equipment sells affordable portable generators, water pumps and pressure washers. While generators are licensed under the Ford trademark, they are in fact manufactured and distributed by Pulsar Inc., which manufactures its products in Asia. However, the company promises great customer service, pre-delivery testing, and their products receive overall very good reviews.

Warranty Information

The Ford FG11050PE is covered under a warranty for up to 2 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
