Description
Zoom on the Firman T12071
In summary, the Firman T12071 is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
The Firman T12071 delivers 120/240V and is equipped with a tri-fuel technology, enabling it to operate on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When powered by gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 12,000W and a peak wattage of 15,000W. Switching to propane provides 11,000 rated watts and 13,750 peak watts, while natural gas operation delivers 10,000W of rated wattage and 12,500W of starting wattage.
Rated for 81 dBA (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal), the generator's starting mechanism relies on a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included).
In terms of run time, the T12071, boasting a 13.3 gallons fuel tank, can run for around 11 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 1.21 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides around 3 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH) of operation with propane.
The T12071 ensures a clean sine wave output, boasting <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to protect your sensitive electronics when connected to its AC outlets.
Outlets
The full GFCI control panel features 8 AC outlets as follows:
In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle making battery charging a breeze.
This Firman generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, the T12071's twist-lock L14-30R receptacle makes it transfer switch ready, enabling hassle-free connection to your breaker box for powering your home during outages.
Portability
Measuring L36 x W31.9 x H40 in, the classic open frame build of the Firman T12071 delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
With a weight of 390 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its wheel kit (⌀12") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
A lift hook located on the top of the frame offers an additional safety feature while facilitating the transport, loading and unloading of the generator.
Features
The T12071's status and activity may be monitored conveniently via the control panel, as it features a convenient meter, displaying voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours information.
With its built-in fuel gauge, the generator provides quick and convenient gas level checks.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, offering peace of mind throughout operation.
The T12071 also benefits from Firman’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown, which automatically shuts down the engine when harmful levels of carbon monoxide accumulate around the generator or a CO Alert fault occurs.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Firman T12071, the following accessories are also included: tool kit, funnel, oil, battery charging cables, propane hose and battery charger.

The Firman T12071 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman T12071 compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- As its dry weight is 390 pounds, the Firman T12071 is one of the heavier of the multi-fuel products which can generate 10000 to 14000 running watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX, with a dry weight of only 209 lbs.
- If compared to generators capable of producing a similar running wattage, this generator with a lowest emitted noise of 81 dBA can be considered somewhat noisy. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Genmax GM12500iET, whose lowest noise levels reach just 62 dBA.
- At 50% load, the T12071 achieves one of the longer run times compared to multi-fuel devices of similar power, sustaining operations for around 11 hours. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the WEN TF1450X, which is able to run for around 12 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. In terms of fuel efficiency within its wattage range, this generator falls short: it consumes approximately 1.21 GPH at a 50% load. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the WEN TF1450X, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.68 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-14000W multi-fuel generators, the Firman T12071 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
Unbelievable build quality. Machine runs great and powers my 4 ton variable speed and 2 ton ac units without a problem. Notice a slight bump when my smaller ac kicks on but nothing major. Will be putting a soft start to ease with that.
