Zoom on the Firman P01001
In short, the Firman P01001 is a compact and lightweight portable generator adequately designed for:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
The Firman P01001 is powered by a 80 cc Firman Max-Pro Series OHV 4-stroke engine with cast iron sleeve. It delivers 120V, runs on gasoline and offers a running wattage of 1,050W as well as a peak wattage of 1,300W.
With a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music), the generator's ignition is facilitated by a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism.
Featuring a 1.3 gallon fuel tank, the P01001 provides continuous power for around 10 hours at 50% load on a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.13 GPH).
The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the P01001 is not recommended due to its high THD (<25%).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following AC outlet:
Moreover, it boasts 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A receptacle providing easy battery charging capabilities.
Portability
With dimensions of L16.2 x W12.9 x H15 in, the traditional open frame design of the Firman P01001 ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Since the P01001 weighs only 46 lbs, it can be labeled as a portable lightweight generator. Thanks to its lightweight design, one person can easily move it around, ensuring power availability wherever you travel.
Features
The control panel of the P01001 is equipped with a handy voltmeter that allows you to easily monitor power output anytime, aiding in monitoring its status and activity.
Thanks to its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently, and easily check the gas level at a glance.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Firman P01001 also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, oil, battery charging cables and funnel.

The Firman P01001 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman P01001 compare to generators of similar power (between 1000 and 2000 W).
- At a weight of 46 pounds, the Firman P01001 places in the expected weight range of the generators in the 1000-2000 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Pulsar PGD16iSCO, with a dry weight of just 24 pounds.
- This generator, with its lowest possible noise rated at 62 dBA falls into the more noisy category, compared to other devices of a similar running wattage. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may want to take a look at the Honda EU2200i. It's one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, rated at 48 dBA.
- At 50% load, the P01001 boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful products, reaching around 10 hours. If run time is one of your main concerns, the Pulsar PG2200R could be worth looking at. It boasts one of the highest run times among units of comparable power, lasting around 12 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This generator is one of the more fuel-efficient options in its power range, consuming approximately 0.13 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Pulsar PGD16iSCO, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.09 gallons per hour.
The bottom line
- Several accessories included
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Decent weight (46 lbs)
- Only 1 AC outlet
- On the noisy side (62 dBA)

User Reviews
Why am I not getting voltage power while my 1050 80cc generator runs?
Some familiar themes noticed in reading other reviews. Non adjustable cheap carbs searching for gas and needing some choke to stay alive sure rings a bell. U tube fella mentioned drilling out a jet ever so slightly. Can even increase diameter with a tough pin etc. Runs and starts great after such fix. – All felt fine with juice cranked out yada yada. Then plugged in a 5.5 amp tool and suddenly no juice at all. The breaker was done in as not resettable. So much fun?? Just ordered better generator and lived to learn.
i purchased the Firman P01001 generator that is located in the side of my 10 car hauler (semi truck) to power my fridge 75W microwave 700 watt
coffee maker 900 watt laptop 25watt , and a small Freon filled air conditioning machine that is only 250 W
all the appliances were directly connected to a 2000 watt 120v to 12v inverter and the inverter was connected to a 12v 90 A semi battery, now i only had one or 2 appliances on at the same time so not to over work the inverter or battery then the battery was charged via my trucks engine ,
when the main truck engine was off i the Firman P01001 generator was used to charge all the batteries of the truck via a 120v to 12v 55AMP transformer this setup worked well for a year the Firman P01001 generator ran for 8 hours with the air conditioning machine and fridge on all night every night during hot Arizona/Nevada weather plus it lived on the side of the truck so had a hard life, i changed the oil every 2 weeks of been ran every night for about 9 hours , with not issues except to clean the air filter and spark plug with in 6 months
the only issue i had was the handle caused the metal tank to rip a hole in the tank where the handle attached this was repleaded by firman under warranty and i used big washers on the replacement tank to spred the load from the handle, its been fine since.
then 11 months of hard use strapped to the side of a car hauler been used almost every day it give in and stopped generating power.
i get about 50 volts out of the outlet now , the engine still runs strong, i would use full quart of full synthetic 15/40w diesel engine oil on a oil change so it would run the full 2 weeks with out the oil low cut off kicking in and i would empty about half a quart of oil out of it when it was changed so oil consumtion was not do bad for the ammount of time it was running
plus the extra oil would help with the extended run times of about 150 hours per oil change and engine cooling.
it sits on top of the car haulers battery box strapped to the frame work via the handle attached to the tank on the side of the truck so the elements do get to it from time to time it but its not constantly soaked in water and its worked fine in wet / dry dusty and in very hot and cold weather at low and high altitude, its been perfect size to keep on the truck and uses only 1.3 gallons of gas per night and does not take up too much space on the truck, im sad its given up i was hoping to get 3 years out of it then get another, i just hope firman honor there 3 year warranty and send me the replacement generator parts i need to fix it and i can install the existing parts on my current unit, like they did when they sent a replaced the tank.
personally i think the dynamo part has failed or the brushes or the winding have failed, the load on the generator was not very much about 50 % and was consistent . it was only plugged in to the transformer on the truck that was charging the tucks batteries when the truck engine was off over night or some times during the day when i was waiting for a new load.
Good generator for minor use like t.v light radio small fridg
This brand new gen as of 1-6-2020 surges very bad,has very lean fuel mixture needs larger pilot jet unable to use it so it is useless since i cannot get larger jet i will bring it back tech support as is the warranty is no good.
