In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.

Power & Run Time

The Firman H08051 in use

The Firman H08051

Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Firman H08051 delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 8,000W and a peak wattage of 10,000W. When propane-powered, it has 7,250 rated watts and 9,050 peak watts.

Operating with a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator offers two starting options: a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included).

The H08051, with a fuel capacity of 8 gallons, reaches a run time of around 12 hours at 50% load utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.67 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of around 5 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.94 GPH) with propane.

Since the H08051 has a high THD (<25%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

If your RV requires a 50-amp service, consider this Firman unit RV-ready, as it includes a 14-50R outlet. In addition, since it boasts a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the H08051 is engineered to be transfer switch ready, ensuring easy integration with your breaker box to provide backup power to your home during outages.

Portability

At L30.2 x W27.5 x H26.3 in, the standard open frame design of the Firman H08051 delivers stability alongside easy maintenance access to components and good air cooling. The generator is designed for outdoor use and demanding environments.

Despite its weight of 212 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The H08051's control panel

The H08051 and its control panel include a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.

A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Firman H08051's package also includes these accessories: funnel, oil, propane hose and tool kit.

The Firman H08051 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman H08051 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).

  • Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 212 lbs, the Firman H08051 belongs in the expected weight range for dual fuel devices which can produce between 7500 and 8500 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Pulsar PGL9000BCO, with a dry weight of only 149 lbs.
  • Because this generator emits noise as low as 74 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the DuroMax XP9500iH, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
  • With around 12 hours of runtime at 50% load, the H08051 provides a one of the highest run times when compared to similarly powerful dual fuel products.
  • Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. This generator is one of the more fuel-efficient models of the aforementioned output range, as its estimated fuel consumption reaches just 0.67 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the Powerhorse s10500id, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.59 GPH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel generators, the Firman H08051 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

Overall a nice generator. Did the job for me for 10 straight hours when I lost power. I was happy to find a generator with a 50 amp outlet on it. That feature is hard to find anymore.

    + PROS:
    • Has 50 amp receptacle. Good power. Started right up with electric start. Ran for 10 hours straight right out of the box.
    - CONS:
    • Quite loud running, awkward putting gas in tank.

My Firman dual fuel failed when the valve stem broke and lodged in the cylinder . It was a right off . I had it for less than a year . Customer service would not honor the warranty because they said I had not done ongoing servicing by adjusting valve settings and not doing clearance checks on the rocker arms and I could not prove I had done proper oil changes . Kiss goodbye to $1600

    + PROS:
    • Powerful
    - CONS:
    • Warranty is worthless .If their maintenance is so important and needs a schedule record put it right at the top of the generator . They asked for the reading on the hour meter . It does not have one , go figure
