Description

The FIRMAN H07553 is a 9400 watt 50A powerhouse that comes with a PGMA G300 CO shutdown. (source: Firman (opens in a new tab))

Zoom on the Firman H07553

In summary, the Firman H07553 is a portable generator especially useful for:

  • Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
  • Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
  • Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Firman H07553 in use

The Firman H07553

Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Firman H07553 delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 7,500W and a peak wattage of 9,400W. When propane-powered, it has 6,750 rated watts and 8,450 peak watts.

With a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher), the generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).

Regarding its running time, the H07553, with a 8 gallons fuel capacity can operate for around 12 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.67 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 6 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.78 GPH).

The H07553 is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its high THD (<25%).

Outlets

The control panel features the following 5 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

If you own an RV with a 50-amp service, you can consider this Firman unit as RV-ready, as it features a 14-50R outlet. Its L5-30R receptacle can also be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. In addition, due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the H07553 is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.

Portability

With its dimensions of L30.2 x W27.5 x H26.3 in, the conventional, open frame design of the Firman H07553 offers stability and allows the generator to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

Since the generator weighs 212 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

Panel of the Firman H07553

The H07553's control panel

The control panel of the H07553 includes a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.

Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.

The H07553 also benefits from Firman’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown, which automatically shuts down the engine when harmful levels of carbon monoxide accumulate around the generator or a CO Alert fault occurs.

While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Firman H07553, the following accessories are also included: funnel, extension cord, tool kit, oil, cover and propane hose.

Emissions

The Firman H07553 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.

The unit also meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Firman H07553 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman H07553 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7000 and 8000 W).

  • As its weight is 212 pounds, the Firman H07553 falls in the expected weight range of the dual fuel devices in the 7000-8000 rated wattage category. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Sportsman GEN85KIDF, with a dry weight of just 133 pounds.
  • Among the generators of a comparable running wattage, this generator with a lowest noise of 74 dBA can be judged as noisy. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Champion 201175. With just 61 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • As the H07553 features an autonomy of around 12 hours at 50% load, it has one of the highest run times in comparison to the other dual fuel generators of its power range.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. As this generator uses an estimated 0.67 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, it finds itself in the average gasoline consumption range of similar products. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Pulsar PG10000B16, with a fuel consumption of 0.55 GPH could be in your good books.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Firman H07553 vs Firman H07552.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 7000-8000W dual fuel generators, the Firman H07553 is on the average side of the price range.

Well we are in the middle of Ice Storm Izzy, so I picked it up at Lowes for a grand, knowing nothing of Firman generators but like the duel fuel capability, so I chucked it in the Subaru then went home and went to school to learn all about what I just bought. It’s still in the box, but I feel it will be well worth the price if I need to fire it up. More impressed with the Other users ratings of high quality, and best bang for your buck. I don’t think I will be disappointed!

    + PROS:
    • Power my whole home as needed, electric start, wheel kit and power cord included.
    - CONS:
    • Quite heavy to lift (I’ll use the kubota front bucket) and fewer watts on propane.

Amazing performance ! I purchased this generator for hurricane Ida and was blown away with it’s performance. I connected it to a reliance 30 amp transfer switch with 6 beakers and it didn’t miss a beat. 4 window AC’s 3@5000 BTU and 1@ 12,000 BTU , 2 refrigerators, lights and outlets in entire house for 10 hours on a tank of gas. My favorite feature is the carbon monoxide detector. I tried running the unit underneath a covered patio away from my house and the sensor detected it and shut the unit off. Thank God !

    + PROS:
    • Reliable and powerful !
    - CONS:
    • Heavy but worth it !

Purchased after our Homelite quit working during Hurricane Ida. We are still without power and it is helping to keep us cool in the sweltering heat. We have a refrigerator, freezer, 2 window units, large tv and a surge protector power strip that has my laptop, tel cell phones and a hotspot plugged into it. As soon as we can get the transfer switch in, we will connect it to use to power outlets. Very pleased!

    + PROS:
    • Operating all that we have plugged into it
    • Easy to operate
    - CONS:
    • Little Louder than the others in neighborhood, but, not unbearable

After Hurricane Ida slammed New Orleans and surrounding areas I was literally forced to buy a generator because all the power was lost city wide. With sweltering heat I went and bought the first one out of 3 choices which happened to be a Firman, never heard of it but chose it over a Generec generator.. I am pleased I did, I feel I made a wise choice, I like this one I very pleased with my choice.

    + PROS:
    • Plenty of power to power just about every essential items in my home and business. Well built and attractively made. Many features for the price range. I bought it because we lost power to the whole city of New Orleans during Hurricane Ida, and lived in comfort the whole time powering 2 large Refrigerators, 3 TVs, fans and stereo and lights at the same time.
    - CONS:
    • Heavy, but with all that power it’s expected.
