Description
Zoom on the Firman H03655
To sum up, the Firman H03655 is a portable generator tailored for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the Firman H03655 delivers 120V, and offers power and flexibility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 3,650W and a peak wattage of 4,550W. When powered by propane, it delivers 3,300 running watts and 4,100 peak watts.
With a noise rating of 67 dBA (less noisy than an office), the generator's starting mechanism is centered around a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism.
With a fuel capacity of 5 gallons, the H03655 can operate for around 14 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.36 GPH), or for around 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH) using propane.
The H03655 is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its high THD (<25%).
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Firman generator is RV Ready.
Portability
With a size of L25.7 x W21.8 x H21.6 in, the Firman H03655 features an open frame design, providing stability and simplified maintenance access to components, enhancing air circulation. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Despite its weight of 112 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
To facilitate status and activity monitoring, a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours are embedded in the control panel of the H03655.
With its built-in fuel gauge, the generator provides quick and convenient gas level checks.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
The H03655 also benefits from Firman’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown, which automatically shuts down the engine when harmful levels of carbon monoxide accumulate around the generator or a CO Alert fault occurs.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Firman H03655, the following accessories are also included: tool kit, oil, funnel and propane hose.
The Firman H03655 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman H03655 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With a dry weight of 112 lbs, the Firman H03655 sits comfortably within the expected weight range for dual fuel devices generating 3500 to 4500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the WEN DF402iX, weighing just 66.1 pounds.
- With noise emissions reaching as low as 67 dBA, this generator has a noise level typical for devices of its type and power category. If you wish to prioritize minimal noise, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF stands out as one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, with a rating of 52 dBA.
- At 50% load, the H03655 achieves one of the longer run times compared to dual fuel devices of similar power, sustaining operations for around 14 hours. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting around 15 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. With an estimated fuel consumption of 0.36 GPH at a 50% load, this generator aligns with the average gasoline usage range of comparable products. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Westinghouse iGen5000DF. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.23 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
The bottom line
- Dual fuel
- CO Alert technology
- Several accessories included
- RV Ready
- High run time
- Decent weight (112 lbs)
- Acceptable noise (67 dBA)
- Decent fuel efficiency
- No electric start

User Reviews
I purchased the Firman on 8/23/20 and recd it 9/3/20. Well packaged with only having to attach sturdy wheel and front rubber ft. Easily pulled to back yard by my small pool shed. Easy to ck oil and add oil. Gas ready right on top.
I wanted to run on propane tanks as they are easy to store & last two yrs or more without spoiling. It Was HARD to start comparing to my son’s Champion.
His pills by 2nd pull. This takes two pulls on choke, then at least 4-5 pulls to get it going on “run“ . After running though, it was nice and smooth for the 5 hours with the light load that the instructions said to use during 5 hrs break in period. I shut her down and put it away. Negative- the plastic choke lever is cheaply done. It seems off center from the “choke” & “Run” markings. I will call “services” about this. I like the meter. I can see Volts-Amps- total hrs run – Gas Fuel Guage is a Nice item too. I live in Texas and our Power goes out in heavy Tropical Storms Hurricanes. My Briggs & Stratton lasted from KY2 1999-2000 until last summer but I kept holding off until last minute before ordering this Firman. (Lucked out and the hurricane struck Lake Charles,La. instead.)
I made it thur Ike and Harvey with a couple of trees down and 11 days without power) Hope this review helps.
