Description
Zoom on the Firman H03654
In a few words, the Firman H03654 is a portable generator perfectly suited for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile Firman H03654 provides an output of 120V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,650W along with a peak wattage of 4,550W. While propane-powered, it provides 3,300 rated watts and 4,100 starting watts.
The generator features a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and also a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 67 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation).
The running time of the H03654, with its 5 gallons fuel capacity, can reach around 14 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.36 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH).
Given the H03654's high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 25%, it is advisable to avoid using it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT standing for 'Travel Trailer'), this Firman generator is RV Ready, perfectly suited for powering recreational vehicles.
Portability
Measuring L24.7 x W21.8 x H21.6 in, the classic open frame construction of the Firman H03654 provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Despite its weight of 119.5 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The H03654's control center features a convenient meter, displaying voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours information to aid you with the monitoring of its status and activity.
The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The H03654 also benefits from Firman’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown, which automatically shuts down the engine when harmful levels of carbon monoxide accumulate around the generator or a CO Alert fault occurs.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Firman H03654 also comes with some accessories: funnel, tool kit, propane hose and oil are included.
The Firman H03654 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman H03654 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With its weight of 119.5 lbs, the Firman H03654 is one of the heavier dual fuel generators in the 3500-4500 rated wattage category. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGX5250BiXCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 64 pounds.
- At 67 dBA, this generator's noise rating is in line with the expected average for devices within its type and power category. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Westinghouse iGen5000DF with only 52 dBA.
- At 50% load, the H03654 boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful dual fuel products, reaching around 14 hours. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting around 15 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. This generator has an estimated fuel consumption of roughly 0.36 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, rendering it somewhat average compared to devices of a similar output. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.23 GPH, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the Firman H03654 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- Dual fuel

How much oil does it take? (Asked December 14, 2019)
The oil capacity is 20.3 oz.
When connecting this generator to propane with the supplied hose,.....do I just connect the propane tank with the hose to the generator? Is the propane regulator built into the generator? Or do I need to buy a separate regulator? Thank you. (Asked December 10, 2020)
The regulator is included with the LPG hose.
