Zoom on the Firman H03651

In summary, the Firman H03651 is a portable generator especially useful for:

  • RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
  • Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
  • Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
  • Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Firman H03651 in use

The Firman H03651

With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile Firman H03651 provides an output of 120V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,650W along with a peak wattage of 4,550W. While propane-powered, it provides 3,300 rated watts and 4,100 starting watts.

At a noise rating of 67 dBA (less noisy than an office), this generator can be started via a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

With a fuel capacity of 5 gallons, the H03651 can operate for around 14 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.36 GPH), or for around 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH) using propane.

The quite high THD (<25%) of the H03651 makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 4 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Firman generator is RV Ready.

Portability

The Firman H03651 has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L24.7 x W21.8 x H21.6 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.

As the generator's weight is 119.5 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

The H03651's control panel

The control panel of the H03651 includes a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.

The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Firman H03651's package also includes these accessories: propane hose, oil, tool kit and funnel.

Emissions

The Firman H03651 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

The Firman H03651 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Firman H03651 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).

  • At a dry weight of 119.5 pounds, the Firman H03651 is one of the heavier dual fuel devices which can produce between 3500 and 4500 running watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the WEN DF402iX, weighing just 66.1 pounds.
  • Because this generator emits noise as low as 67 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 52 dBA.
  • The H03651 provides a higher run time than similarly powerful dual fuel devices, reaching around 14 hours at 50% load. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, with around 15 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. As this generator uses an estimated 0.36 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, it finds itself in the average gasoline consumption range of similar products. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Westinghouse iGen4500DF. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.23 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Firman H03651 vs Firman H03652.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the Firman H03651 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

How much oil does it take? (Asked December 14, 2019)

The oil capacity is 20.3 oz.

When connecting this generator to propane with the supplied hose,.....do I just connect the propane tank with the hose to the generator? Is the propane regulator built into the generator? Or do I need to buy a separate regulator? Thank you. (Asked December 10, 2020)

The regulator is included with the LPG hose.
