Zoom on the Energizer eZG3500

In a nutshell, the Energizer eZG3500 is a portable generator mostly geared towards:

  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
  • Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
  • DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
  • Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Energizer eZG3500 in use

The Energizer eZG3500

The Energizer eZG3500's design includes a gasoline-fueled 208 cc Energizer OHV 4-stroke engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 3000W and also a peak wattage of 3500W.

At a noise rating of 76 dBA (less noisy than a dishwasher), the generator is started via a conventional pull-start mechanism.

The eZG3500 can operate for up to 19.5 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.22 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 4.2 gallons.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

Because the eZG3500 is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

The Energizer eZG3500 has the following dimensions: L25.6 x W23.6 x H21.9 in. In combination with its conventional, open frame design, they provide support and allow the generator to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

As the generator's weight is 117 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its wheel kit and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.

Features

Panel of the Energizer eZG3500

The eZG3500's control panel

When the oil level is too low, you will be informed by the featured light indicator.

Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.

As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Energizer eZG3500 also comes with some accessories: tool kit, oil and funnel are included.

Emissions

The Energizer eZG3500 is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

The Energizer eZG3500 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Energizer eZG3500 compare to generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • With a dry weight of 117 pounds, the Energizer eZG3500 finds itself in the expected weight range for generators able to produce between 2500 and 3500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the WEN GN400i, weighing just 66.1 pounds.
  • As this generator has its lowest possible noise of 76 dBA, it should be considered noisier compared to its peers of a comparable running wattage. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Honda EU3000iS with only 50 dBA.
  • As the eZG3500 features an autonomy of up to 19.5 hours at 25% load, it has a higher run time than an average generator of its power range. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Champion 200954, boasting with up to 22 hours.
  • Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This generator is somewhat less fuel efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 0.22 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Energizer eZV3200P, with a fuel consumption of 0.13 GPH could be in your good books.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 2500-3500W generators, the Energizer eZG3500 is on the cheap side of the price range.

It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

The bottom line
