Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the ECHO EGi-4000 operates with a 212 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, with a running wattage of 3,400W and a peak wattage of 4,000W.
This inverter generator features a manual recoil starter system.
With its 3.3 gallons fuel tank, the EGi-4000 can operate for around 10 hours at 50% load when fully fueled (with fuel usage averaging around 0.33 GPH).
The <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the EGi-4000 ensures a clean sine wave output, providing a secure power source for your sensitive electronics through its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
Moreover, it presents 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT meaning 'Travel Trailer'), this ECHO generator is RV Ready, ready to power your recreational vehicle with ease.
Portability
With dimensions of L27 x W18.8 x H24 in, the standard open frame design of the ECHO EGi-4000 provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. The generator is designed for outdoor use and demanding environments.
Weighing 86 lbs, the EGi-4000 is practical, ensuring it can follow you wherever power is required. Moreover, its wheel kit and its folding handle facilitate movement of the generator once it's on the ground.
Features
Enhancing monitoring capabilities, the EGi-4000 features a digital data center within its control panel, furnishing essential details on the remaining run time, power output and fuel level for tracking activity and status.
From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during operation.
The EGi-4000 also benefits from ECHO’s COntrol™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.
Besides the features previously mentioned, accessory-wise, the ECHO EGi-4000 comes with the usual documentation and owner's manual (opens in a new tab) needed to get you promptly started.
Note
The unit used to be able to be paired with a smartphone via the ECHO COMMAND™ app. As of 2024/05/01, this app is no longer available.
The ECHO EGi-4000 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the ECHO EGi-4000 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- Weighing in at 86 lbs, the ECHO EGi-4000 fits within the expected weight range for inverters producing 2500 to 3500 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO with only 46 pounds.
- With a run time of around 10 hours at 50% load, the EGi-4000 has one of the higher run times, compared to its similarly powerful peers. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Generac iQ3600DF could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching around 13 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. Compared to similar devices, this inverter generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.33 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 50% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.22 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W inverter generators, the ECHO EGi-4000 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

How do you start the echo egi 4000 (Asked December 13, 2022)
There is a lever located above the air filter. It should be placed on the START (middle) position before pulling the starter rope. Once the generator runs, the lever should be in the RUN (right) position.
