Description
Zoom on the ECHO EGi-4000
In a nutshell, the ECHO EGi-4000 is a portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Amateur DIY lovers
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the ECHO EGi-4000 operates with a 212 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, with a running wattage of 3,400W and a peak wattage of 4,000W.
Its starting mechanism is based on a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism.
The EGi-4000's fuel tank holds 3.3 gallons, ensuring uninterrupted operation for around 10 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption approximately 0.33 GPH).
Thanks to its low <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the EGi-4000 produces a clean sine wave output, making it safe for your sensitive electronics when utilizing the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT meaning 'Travel Trailer'), this ECHO generator is RV Ready, ready to power your recreational vehicle with ease.
Portability
With its L27 x W18.8 x H24 in dimensions, the open frame structure of the ECHO EGi-4000 guarantees stability, simplified maintenance access to components, and better air cooling than enclosed units. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
With a dry weight of 86 lbs, the EGi-4000 is manageable, ensuring it can accompany you wherever you need power. Moreover, its wheel kit and its folding handle will allow you to easily shift it once it's on the ground.
Features
Embedded in the control panel of the EGi-4000, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the fuel level, power output and remaining run time to aid in monitoring activity and status.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The EGi-4000 also benefits from ECHO’s COntrol™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.
Accessory-wise, along with the previously mentioned features, the ECHO EGi-4000 is packaged with the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helping you start the device right away.
Note
The unit used to be able to be paired with a smartphone via the ECHO COMMAND™ app. As of 2024/05/01, this app is no longer available.
The ECHO EGi-4000 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the ECHO EGi-4000 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- With a dry weight of 86 pounds, the ECHO EGi-4000 finds itself in the expected weight range for inverter generators able to produce between 2500 and 3500 rated watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, standing at just 46 lbs.
- In terms of run time, the EGi-4000 surpasses similarly powerful inverters, boasting one of the higher run times at around 10 hours. If runtime is a priority for you, the Ryobi RYi4022X stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 12 hours of continuous use.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. In fact, this inverter generator is not one of the most fuel-efficient options in the aforementioned wattage range: its estimated gasoline consumption at 50% load is around 0.33 GPH. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.22 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W inverter generators, the ECHO EGi-4000 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- COntrol™ technology
- RV Ready
- Inverter
- High run time
- Decent weight (86 lbs)
- No electric start
- No parallel ports
- Low fuel efficiency
