Description
The DS13000X is the largest and most powerful gasoline generator in the X Series, with 13,000 peak watts and 10,500 running watts.
Zoom on the DuroStar DS13000X
In a nutshell, the DuroStar DS13000X is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
DuroStar DS13000X runs on gasoline, powered by a 500 cc OHV 4-stroke engine with cast iron sleeve, delivering 120/240V, boasting a running wattage of 10,500W alongside a starting wattage of 13,000W.
At a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator can be started via a manual recoil starter system, or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).
Featuring a 8.3 gallons fuel tank, the DS13000X can provide power for around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank (with fuel consumption averaging 0.98 gallons per hour).
The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the DS13000X is not recommended due to its relatively high THD (<12%).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 7 AC outlets:
While this DuroStar generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, with its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DS13000X is designed to be transfer switch ready, allowing easy connection to your breaker box for powering your home during a blackout.
Portability
With its L30 x W29 x H26 in dimensions, the open frame structure of the DuroStar DS13000X provides stability, simplified maintenance access to components, and better air cooling than enclosed units. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 240 lbs. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The DS13000X's control center features a convenient meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics to aid you with the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, the device's light indicator will illuminate to indicate if its oil levels are insufficient.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
The DS13000X also benefits from DuroStar’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the DuroStar DS13000X also comes with some accessories: tool kit and funnel are included.

The DuroStar DS13000X versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroStar DS13000X compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- With a dry weight of 240 lbs, the DuroStar DS13000X falls within the expected weight range for generators in the 10000 to 11000 rated wattage. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX with only 209 pounds.
- With noise emissions reaching as low as 74 dBA, this generator has a noise level typical for devices of its power category. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the Genmax GM12500iET appealing. It's rated at 62 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
- In terms of its autonomy, the DS13000X can operate for around 8.5 hours at a 50% load, placing it within the lower bracket among generators of similar power range. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Genmax GM15000ET could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 11 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This generator is one of the more fuel-efficient options in its power range, consuming approximately 0.98 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the WEN TF1300iX, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.93 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroStar DS13000X is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
