Description
The DS13000X is the largest and most powerful gasoline generator in the X Series, with 13,000 peak watts and 10,500 running watts.
Zoom on the DuroStar DS13000X
In summary, the DuroStar DS13000X is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Featuring a 500 cc OHV 4-stroke engine with cast iron sleeve, the DuroStar DS13000X operates using gasoline, providing 120/240V, with a running wattage of 10,500W and a starting wattage of 13,000W.
The generator is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher). Its starting mechanisms include a manual recoil starter system and a practical and straightforward electric starter (battery included).
Thanks to its 8.3 gallons fuel tank, the DS13000X can run continuously for around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank (with an average fuel consumption of approximately 0.98 GPH).
Due to the relatively high THD (<12%) of the DS13000X, it is advised against using it for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 7 AC outlets:
This DuroStar generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DS13000X is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.
Portability
Measuring L30 x W29 x H26 in, the DuroStar DS13000X showcases a classic open frame layout, offering stability and simple maintenance access to components, while facilitating air circulation. The generator is designed for outdoor use and demanding environments.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 240 pounds. Nevertheless, thanks to its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle (a decent solution to its lack of maneuverability), the generator can be easily moved, once placed the ground.
Features
The DS13000X and its control panel include a convenient meter, providing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours data. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
In addition to this info, the device's light indicator will illuminate to indicate if its oil levels are insufficient.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
The DS13000X also benefits from DuroStar’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the DuroStar DS13000X also includes several accessories: funnel and tool kit.

The DuroStar DS13000X versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroStar DS13000X compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- Having a dry weight of 240 lbs, the DuroStar DS13000X belongs in the expected weight range for generators which produce 10000 to 11000 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Genmax GM12000XiT stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 194 pounds.
- Since the generator's noise is rated at 74 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Genmax GM12500iET. With just 62 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- Autonomy-wise, with around 8.5 hours on a full tank at a 50% load, the DS13000X is on the low end when compared to other generators of a similar power output. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Genmax GM15000ET could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 11 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. With an estimated gasoline consumption of 0.98 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this generator is among the more fuel-efficient of the products in the above-mentioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the WEN TF1300iX. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.93 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroStar DS13000X is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- CO Alert technology
- GFCI Outlets
- 4 different AC outlet types
- Electric start
- Fuel efficient
- Decent weight (240 lbs)
- Acceptable noise (74 dBA)
- No remote start
