Description

The DuroStar DS13000EH is a Dual Fuel workhorse powered by a 500cc OHV Engine and runs on gasoline or propane. Producing over 13,000 watts you can rest assured you will stay powered through any storm including your household essentials such as lights, small and large appliances, and your home's central A/C.

Zoom on the DuroStar DS13000EH

In summary, the DuroStar DS13000EH is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment.

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The DuroStar DS13000EH in use

The DuroStar DS13000EH

The dual-fuel technology of the DuroStar DS13000EH allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 10,500W and a starting wattage of 13,000W. If propane-powered, it gives 9,975 rated watts and 12,350 starting watts.

The generator is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).

The DS13000EH, with a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, reaches a run time of around 8 hours at 50% load utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.04 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of around 3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH) with propane.

The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the DS13000EH is not recommended due to its relatively high THD (<12%).

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 5 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries.

This DuroStar generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DS13000EH is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.

Portability

The DuroStar DS13000EH has the following dimensions: L29 x W30 x H26 in. In combination with its conventional, open frame design, they provide support and allow the generator to be raised above ground level. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 234 pounds. However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.

Features

Panel of the DuroStar DS13000EH

The DS13000EH's control panel

To help you monitor the DS13000EH's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.

In addition to this info, when its oil levels are insufficient, you will be informed by the featured light indicator.

The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).

While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroStar DS13000EH, the following accessories are also included: funnel, propane hose and tool kit.

Emissions

The DuroStar DS13000EH is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The DuroStar DS13000EH versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroStar DS13000EH compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • Weight-wise, the DuroStar DS13000EH has only 234 lbs, which renders it one of the lighter generators which produce 10000 to 11000 rated watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, standing at just 218 lbs.
  • Since the generator's noise is rated at 74 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the A-iPower SUA13000EFI. With just 69 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • Regarding its autonomy, the autonomy of the DS13000EH, reaching around 8 hours at a 50% load, can be considered as low end, compared to other products of a roughly equal output. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, which is able to run for around 15 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This generator is rather wasteful, compared to other devices within the aforementioned output range, when it comes to gasoline consumption, as it reaches roughly 1.04 GPH at a 50% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.78 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: DuroStar DS13000EH vs DuroMax XP13000EH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroStar DS13000EH is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
