Description
Zoom on the DuroMax XP9500iH
In summary, the DuroMax XP9500iH is a powerful portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP9500iH delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 7,600W and a peak wattage of 9,500W. When propane-powered, it has 7,200 rated watts and 9,025 peak watts. In addition, as it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), this power can be increased when linked to another similar or compatible unit.
DuroMax’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
At a noise rating of 61 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music), this inverter generator provides the choice between a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism or an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included) for starting. To add further convenience, the XP9500iH can be remotely started (key fob included).
As for its running time, the XP9500iH, along with its 7.1 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 21 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.34 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 9.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.49 GPH).
As the XP9500iH produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), sensitive electronics may be plugged in the AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:
If your RV requires a 50-amp service, consider this DuroMax unit RV-ready, as it includes a 14-50R outlet. In addition, equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP9500iH is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Portability
With an inverter generator design, the DuroMax XP9500iH features a closed construction (L26.2 x W25 x H29.6 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 216 lbs. Nevertheless, the restricted maneuverability is counteracted by its set of wheels (⌀8.5") and its folding handle, enabling easy shifting once the generator is set in place.
Features
The XP9500iH's control panel is equipped with a digital data center, furnishing detailed information on the power output, voltage, lifetime run hours and frequency for you to easily track its activity and status.
In addition to this info, the device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the generator is on overload, the generator is ready and its oil levels are insufficient.
The inverter generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
The XP9500iH also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the DuroMax XP9500iH also comes with several accessories, including: battery charger, key fob, propane hose, funnel and tool kit. An official running cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The DuroMax XP9500iH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP9500iH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- At a weight of 216 pounds, the DuroMax XP9500iH places in the expected weight range of the dual fuel generators in the 7500-8500 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Pulsar PGL9000BCO, with a dry weight of only 149 lbs.
- With a lowest possible noise of 61 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the most quiet of the products delivering similar power.
- Compared to dual fuel devices of similar power, the XP9500iH stands out with one of the higher run times, lasting up to 21 hours at 25% load. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the DuroMax XP10000EH, reaching up to 22 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. With a fuel consumption rate around 0.34 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is one of the most fuel-efficient models within the aforementioned wattage range.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel inverter generators, the DuroMax XP9500iH is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
