Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP9000iH in use

The DuroMax XP9000iH

With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile DuroMax XP9000iH provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 7,600W along with a peak wattage of 9,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 7,200 rated watts and 8,550 starting watts. Additionally, as the generator is parallel capable (XP9000iH-PK parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included), it can be linked to a second unit for more power.

DuroMax’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.

With a noise rating of 68 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), the inverter generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). For additional convenience, the XP9000iH may also be remotely started (key fob included).

With a fuel capacity of 6.9 gallons, the XP9000iH can operate for up to 20 hours using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.35 GPH), or for up to 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.52 GPH) using propane.

Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the XP9000iH produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.

Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP9000iH is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage. The unit also features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.

Portability

The DuroMax XP9000iH's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L27 x W21 x H25 in), provides an esthetical advantage over any ordinary, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.

Since the generator weighs 237 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 4 wheels (⌀4.5") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The XP9000iH's control panel

To help you monitor the XP9000iH's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a digital data center, giving you information on the power output, lifetime run hours, voltage and frequency.

In addition to this info, when the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is on overload, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.

The inverter generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

The XP9000iH also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the DuroMax XP9000iH also comes with several accessories, including: key fob, funnel, propane hose, tool kit and battery charger.

Emissions

The DuroMax XP9000iH is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP9000iH versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP9000iH compare to generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).

  • Considering its dry weight of 237 pounds, the DuroMax XP9000iH is one of the heavier generators producing between 7500 and 8500 running watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Dewalt DXGNR8000, with a dry weight of just 183 pounds.
  • As its lowest possible noise is rated at 68 dBA, this inverter generator qualifies as one of the more quiet of the products of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Genmax GM9000iED. With just 62 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • With a run time of up to 20 hours at 25% load, the XP9000iH has one of the higher run times, compared to its similarly powerful peers. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the DuroMax XP10000HX, with up to 22 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.35 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, is one of the most fuel efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range.

Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 7500-8500W generators, the DuroMax XP9000iH is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
