The DuroMax XP9000iH

With its dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP9000iH delivers 120/240V, and offers power and flexibility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 7,600W and a peak wattage of 9,000W. When powered by propane, it delivers 7,200 running watts and 8,550 peak watts. Additionally, the parallel capability (XP9000iH-PK parallel kit not included) facilitates increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, offering enhanced energy capacity and reliability for diverse requirements.

DuroMax’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.

The inverter generator, rated for a noise of 68 dBA (less noisy than an office), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a manual recoil starter system and an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included). For added user convenience, the XP9000iH is equipped with remote starting capabilities (key fob included).

In terms of run time, the XP9000iH, boasting a 6.9 gallons fuel tank, can run for up to 20 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.35 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides up to 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.52 GPH) of operation with propane.

The XP9000iH generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

Furthermore, it showcases 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) perfect for conveniently charging mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.

Since it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP9000iH is tailored to be transfer switch ready, making it easy to connect it to your breaker box for home power support during outages. The unit also features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.

Portability

As an inverter generator, the DuroMax XP9000iH showcases a closed design (L27 x W21 x H25 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring quieter operation compared to conventional, open frame models. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.

Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 237 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its set of 4 wheels (⌀4.5") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Have powered my house on 2 occasions, one a more extended outage after a hurricane. Plus, I start it each quarter and never fails to crank. Very quiet too. My only complaints are that it is heavy (though the handle and wheels help) and the service port and location of service items are a bit frustrating.

    • Very powerful
    • Dual fuel
    • Quiet
    • Data center

I do not recommend this generator. I’ve had two of them and they both failed. On the first one, the control panel failed and I had to bring it to a “local” repair shop which was hours away. It sat there for months waiting for parts when they finally decided to send me a new unit instead. Low and behold the new unit’s control panel failed as well. On top of that the propane valve failed too. I reached out to customer support and they told me to bring it in for repair again. At this point I don’t want another generator from this company, I will look elsewhere. Currently I am still waiting to hear back from customer support to see if I can even return it.

    + PROS:
    • Lots of power
    - CONS:
    • Components break often leading to time consuming repairs.

Excellent generator! I run my whole house on this with no problems. 3400 square ft home. I have a quick connect off my 1000 gallon propane tank so it’s really simple to run. The price has dropped almost 500.00 since I bought mine, probably going to get another one and the parallel kit. Also more fuel efficient than advertised. Ran several test on both gas and propane, I found it to be almost 20% higher efficiency on both fuels than advertised, nice bonus. Highly recommend this unit. Have had multiple generators over the years and this seems the best for us. Lose power a lot and we’re very isolated so being able to hook to 1000 gallon tank is great, no running out for gas or filling 20 pounders in power outage. Have run it about 90 hours since purchasing this in 2021.Hope this helps.

    + PROS:
    • Quite, great fuel consumption, remote start, simple to use and great information usage panel.
    - CONS:
    • The hour meter doesn't continue, it restarts at zero hours every time you start it making it harder to keep track of hours on unit. Have a note book nearby for this. Changing the oil should be a little easier.
