Description

The XP5250EH Dual Fuel portable generator is designed as a powerful user-friendly unit that provides 5,250 watts of power using gas or liquid propane. Perfect for running household appliances and providing power to the jobsite.

Zoom on the DuroMax XP5250EH

In a nutshell, the DuroMax XP5250EH is a portable generator mostly geared towards:

  • RV travellers looking for even more independence
  • People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP5250EH in use

The DuroMax XP5250EH

Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP5250EH delivers 120V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 4,200W and a peak wattage of 5,250W. When propane-powered, it has 4,000 rated watts and 5,000 peak watts.

With a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than an office), the generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

Regarding its running time, the XP5250EH, with a 4 gallons fuel capacity can operate for around 8 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.5 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).

The quite high THD (<12%) of the XP5250EH makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

This DuroMax generator is RV Ready, as it features a TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').

Portability

The DuroMax XP5250EH has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L25 x W22 x H22 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

As the generator's weight is 124 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). Nevertheless, thanks to its wheel kit and its folding handle (a decent solution to its lack of maneuverability), the generator can be easily moved, once placed the ground.

Features

The control panel of the XP5250EH includes a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.

In addition to this info, the device’s light indicator will display if the oil level is too low.

The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the DuroMax XP5250EH also is packed along with the following accessories: propane hose, tool kit and funnel.

Emissions

The DuroMax XP5250EH is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and thus, may be used in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP5250EH versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP5250EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).

  • As its dry weight is 124 pounds, the DuroMax XP5250EH is one of the heavier of the dual fuel products which can generate 3500 to 4500 running watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN DF402iX, standing at just 66.1 lbs.
  • When compared to devices able to produce a similar running wattage, this generator and its lowest emitted noise of 69 dBA is on the noisier side. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, whose lowest noise levels reach just 52 dBA.
  • Autonomy-wise, with around 8 hours on a full tank at a 50% load, the XP5250EH is on the low end when compared to other dual fuel generators of a similar power output. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, as it provides around 15 hours.
  • While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank’s capacity and thus, doesn’t say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. Compared to its peers, this generator is not exactly fuel efficient, compared to similarly powerful devices, with an estimated fuel consumption of 0.5 GPH at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.23 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the DuroMax XP5250EH is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
