- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile DuroMax XP4850EH provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,850W along with a peak wattage of 4,850W. While propane-powered, it provides 3,658 rated watts and 4,608 starting watts.
With a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than background music), the generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).
In terms of run time, the XP4850EH, boasting a 4 gallons fuel tank, can run for up to 23 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.17 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides up to 18 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.26 GPH) of operation with propane.
The XP4850EH is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its relatively high THD (<12%).
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A output providing easy battery charging capabilities.
Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP4850EH is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.
Portability
With dimensions of L25 x W24 x H21 in, the traditional open frame design of the DuroMax XP4850EH ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Though weighing 122 lbs, the generator remains classified as 'portable,' indicating its capability to be moved, though its weight could pose transport challenges. However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the XP4850EH includes a handy voltmeter that allows you to easily monitor power output anytime, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if its oil levels are insufficient.
The built-in fuel gauge of the generator ensures simple and quick gas level assessments.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the DuroMax XP4850EH also comes with several accessories, including: tool kit, funnel, battery charging cables and propane hose.

The DuroMax XP4850EH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP4850EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With a weight of 122 lbs, the DuroMax XP4850EH sits in the heavier end of the spectrum among dual fuel generators rated from 3500 to 4500 watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Pulsar PGX5250BiXCO, with a dry weight of just 64 pounds.
- At 69 dBA, this generator's noise rating is in line with the expected average for devices within its type and power category. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 52 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- The XP4850EH provides one of the highest run time among similarly powerful dual fuel devices, reaching up to 23 hours at 25% load.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.17 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.16 GPH, the Champion 201319 is a device you could look out for.
The bottom line
- Dual fuel
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Acceptable noise (69 dBA)
- No remote start
- On the heavy side (122 lbs)

Buen Generador para un buen propietario.
It is junk. Arrived with bent frame but workable. It has no power, gets very hot, had to adjust valves as they were too tight and leaked, still can barely deliver 3000 watts on propane. It is worthless and never buy one. For warranty they send you a very damaged one that is no good either. They totally lie about what power they can make. In fact your ad here and theirs is higher for propane than the user manual you get with the unit. And fact is it can’t generate the lower number even. Warranty means nothing as they refuse to honor it and want it taken long distances for service, and send you more junk if they actually try to be fair. But who wants more and more junk. They lie about every specification. I will never buy from them again. Ever.
