Zoom on the DuroMax XP4850EH
In summary, the DuroMax XP4850EH is a portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The DuroMax XP4850EH, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120/240V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,850W and a starting wattage of 4,850W. On propane, it provides 3,658 running watts and 4,608 starting watts.
At a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), this generator provides the choice between a conventional pull-start mechanism or a user-friendly and hassle-free electric starter (battery included) for starting.
Regarding its running time, the XP4850EH, with a 4 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for up to 23 hours with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.17 GPH). When using propane, it can run for up to 18 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.26 GPH).
Considering its relatively high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 12%, it is not recommended to rely on the XP4850EH for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 3 AC outlets:
In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A output with which you may charge your batteries with ease.
With its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP4850EH is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
With dimensions of L25 x W24 x H21 in, the standard open frame design of the DuroMax XP4850EH provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Even at 122 lbs, the generator is categorized as 'portable,' suggesting its movability, although its weight may impede its portability. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
To facilitate status and activity monitoring, a convenient voltmeter, which provides an easy way to monitor power output anytime are embedded in the control panel of the XP4850EH.
In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if the oil level is too low.
The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the DuroMax XP4850EH is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, battery charging cables, propane hose and funnel.

The DuroMax XP4850EH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP4850EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- A weight of 122 lbs makes the DuroMax XP4850EH one of the heavier dual fuel devices in the 3500-4500 rated wattage range. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Pulsar PGX5250BiXCO, weighing just 64 pounds.
- As this generator can emit noise as low as 69 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Westinghouse iGen5000DF with only 52 dBA.
- Thanks to an impressive running time of up to 23 hours at 25% load, the XP4850EH benefits from one of the highest run times among dual fuel generators of a similar output.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.17 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the Champion 201319 is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.16 gallons per hour.
The bottom line
- Dual fuel
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Acceptable noise (69 dBA)
- No remote start
- On the heavy side (122 lbs)

Cambio el aceite cada 20 horas.
Lo mantengo en un encienrro, en el patio junto a una sombrilla de playa.
Buen Generador para un buen propietario.
It is junk. Arrived with bent frame but workable. It has no power, gets very hot, had to adjust valves as they were too tight and leaked, still can barely deliver 3000 watts on propane. It is worthless and never buy one. For warranty they send you a very damaged one that is no good either. They totally lie about what power they can make. In fact your ad here and theirs is higher for propane than the user manual you get with the unit. And fact is it can’t generate the lower number even. Warranty means nothing as they refuse to honor it and want it taken long distances for service, and send you more junk if they actually try to be fair. But who wants more and more junk. They lie about every specification. I will never buy from them again. Ever.
