Zoom on the DuroMax XP4850EH
In summary, the DuroMax XP4850EH is a portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the DuroMax XP4850EH allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,850W and a starting wattage of 4,850W. If propane-powered, it gives 3,658 rated watts and 4,608 starting watts.
At a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than background music), this generator provides the choice between a simple traditional pull-start mechanism or an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included) for starting.
In terms of its run time capability, the XP4850EH, furnished with a 4 gallons fuel tank, can maintain operations for up to 23 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.17 gallons per hour). It also provides up to 18 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.26 GPH) of operation with propane.
The quite high THD (<12%) of the XP4850EH makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A output with which charging your batteries is made easy.
The XP4850EH's twist-lock L14-30R receptacle makes it transfer switch ready, enabling hassle-free connection to your breaker box for powering your home during outages.
Portability
At L25 x W24 x H21 in, the traditional open frame structure of the DuroMax XP4850EH ensures stability while facilitating convenient maintenance access to components and promoting air cooling. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Even at 122 lbs, the generator is categorized as 'portable,' suggesting its movability, although its weight impede its portability. However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The XP4850EH's control center features a handy voltmeter that allows you to easily monitor power output anytime to aid you with the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, the generator's light indicator provides visual feedback when its oil levels are insufficient.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the DuroMax XP4850EH's package also includes these accessories: battery charging cables, tool kit, propane hose and funnel.

The DuroMax XP4850EH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP4850EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At a dry weight of 122 pounds, the DuroMax XP4850EH is one of the heavier dual fuel devices which can produce between 3500 and 4500 running watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN DF402iX, standing at just 66.1 lbs.
- If compared to generators capable of producing a similar running wattage, this generator with a lowest emitted noise of 69 dBA can be considered somewhat noisy. If you wish to prioritize minimal noise, the Westinghouse iGen4500DF stands out as one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, with a rating of 52 dBA.
- At 25% load, the XP4850EH boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful dual fuel products, reaching up to 23 hours. If runtime is a priority for you, the Firman WH03662OF stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing up to 25 hours of continuous use.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. Among devices of similar power, this generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.17 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the Champion 201319, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.16 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the DuroMax XP4850EH is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

Lo compre en el 2020. Muchas veces usado, siempre trabaja bien.

It is junk. Arrived with bent frame but workable. It has no power, gets very hot, had to adjust valves as they were too tight and leaked, still can barely deliver 3000 watts on propane. It is worthless and never buy one. For warranty they send you a very damaged one that is no good either. They totally lie about what power they can make. In fact your ad here and theirs is higher for propane than the user manual you get with the unit. And fact is it can’t generate the lower number even. Warranty means nothing as they refuse to honor it and want it taken long distances for service, and send you more junk if they actually try to be fair. But who wants more and more junk. They lie about every specification. I will never buy from them again. Ever.
