- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Amateur DIY lovers
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
With a 212 cc (7 hp) DuroMax OHV 4-stroke engine, the DuroMax XP4400E operates on gasoline, providing 120/240V, with a running wattage of 3,500W and a starting wattage of 4,400W.
Enjoying a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), this generator can be started thanks to a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also to a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included).
With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the XP4400E can run for up to 25 hours when the tank is full (fuel consumption is approximately 0.16 gallons per hour).
The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the XP4400E is not recommended due to its relatively high THD (<12%).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A output with which charging your batteries is made easy.
Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP4400E is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.
Portability
At L25 x W24 x H21 in, the standard open frame design of the DuroMax XP4400E delivers stability alongside easy maintenance access to components and good air cooling. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 122 lbs. Nevertheless, the restricted maneuverability is counteracted by its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, enabling easy shifting once the generator is set in place.
Features
For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the XP4400E includes a handy voltmeter that allows you to easily monitor power output anytime.
In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if its oil levels are insufficient.
The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
In terms of security, the generator features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during its use.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the DuroMax XP4400E is bundled with additional accessories: battery charging cables, tool kit and funnel. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
The DuroMax XP4400E versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP4400E compare to generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).
- With its weight of 122 lbs, the DuroMax XP4400E is one of the heavier generators in the 3000-4000 rated wattage category. Weight-conscious users may find the Pulsar PGD40iSCO appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 46 pounds.
- This generator, with its lowest possible noise rated at 69 dBA falls into the more noisy category, compared to other devices of a similar running wattage. If you wish to prioritize minimal noise, the Westinghouse iGen4500DF stands out as one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, with a rating of 52 dBA.
- Compared to devices of similar power, the XP4400E stands out with one of the higher run times, lasting up to 25 hours at 25% load. For those prioritizing autonomy, the DuroStar DS4000S could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching up to 26 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. With an estimated gasoline consumption of 0.16 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this generator is among the more fuel-efficient of the products in the above-mentioned wattage range. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the Energizer eZV3500P is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.13 gallons per hour.
The bottom line
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- No remote start
- On the heavy side (122 lbs)
- On the noisy side (69 dBA)

User Reviews
This is a really nice unit right out of the box with lots of accessories. It starts and runs well. Being a 4400 starting and 3500 running, It ran most all of my need appliance with no issue. Just be careful not to overload with too many heavy appliances at once. Like make coffee and turn coffee of for the microwave or hairdryer..
