Zoom on the DuroMax XP2300iH
In a nutshell, the DuroMax XP2300iH is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Amateur DIY lovers
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the DuroMax XP2300iH allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 1,800W and a starting wattage of 2,300W. If propane-powered, it gives 1,700 rated watts and 2,150 starting watts. Additionally, as the generator is parallel capable (parallel kit included), it can be linked to a second unit for more power.
DuroMax’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
Enjoying a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a conversation at home), this inverter generator gets running thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism.
Regarding its running time, the XP2300iH, with a 1.1 gallon fuel capacity can operate for up to 13 hours with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.08 GPH). When using propane, it can run for up to 38 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.12 GPH).
Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the XP2300iH generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
Even if this DuroMax generator isn't quite RV Ready, it still allows for an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor, thanks to its L5-30R receptacle.
Portability
The DuroMax XP2300iH is an inverter generator and has an encased design of the following dimensions: L22 x W14 x H20 in. Thus, it is more aesthetical than conventional, open frame products. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
As the XP2300iH's weight is only 50.6 lbs, it can follow you and your power needs anywhere. Moreover, its set of 2 wheels (⌀4.5") and its telecospic handle will allow you to effortlessly shift it once it's on the ground.
Features
Monitoring of the XP2300iH's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the frequency, fuel level, voltage, lifetime run hours and power output and is one of the features of its control panel.
In addition to this info, when the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is overloaded, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The XP2300iH also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP2300iH, the following accessories are also included: propane hose, tool kit and funnel.
Emissions
The DuroMax XP2300iH is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP2300iH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP2300iH compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 50.6 lbs, the DuroMax XP2300iH belongs in the expected weight range for inverters which can produce between 1500 and 2500 rated watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of just 34.2 pounds.
- With a lowest noise rating of 52 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the more quiet of the generators of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Honda EU2200i, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 48 dBA.
- Thanks to an impressive running time of up to 13 hours at 25% load, the XP2300iH benefits from one of the highest run times among inverter generators of a similar output.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank’s capacity and thus, doesn’t say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator is one of the most fuel efficient models of the aforementioned output range, as its estimated fuel consumption reaches just 0.08 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the DuroMax XP2300iH is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
