Zoom on the DuroMax XP16000iH
In summary, the DuroMax XP16000iH is a powerful portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
- Small homeowners in search of a full power backup solution
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Delivering 120/240V, the DuroMax XP16000iH is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 13,000W and a starting wattage of 16,000W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 12,350 running watts and 15,200 starting watts. Furthermore, its parallel capability (parallel kit not included) allows power output to increase when connected to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
DuroMax’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
With a noise rating of 67 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), the inverter generator features a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included). Moreover, the XP16000iH boasts remote starting functionality, adding another layer of convenience (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the XP16000iH, with a 10.6 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for around 10.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.01 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH).
Thanks to its low <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the XP16000iH produces a clean sine wave output, making it safe for your sensitive electronics when utilizing the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:
The unit features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.
Portability
Since the DuroMax XP16000iH is an inverter generator, its closed design (L38.3 x W30.8 x H34.4 in) not only provides an aesthetic advantage but also contributes to reduced noise levels compared to conventional, open frame devices. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 368 pounds. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its set of 4 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
Embedded in the control panel of the XP16000iH, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the power output, voltage, frequency and lifetime run hours to aid in monitoring activity and status.
In addition to this info, the device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the generator is overloaded, the oil level is too low and the generator is ready.
With its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator provides quick and convenient gas level checks.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
The XP16000iH also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the DuroMax XP16000iH's package also includes these accessories: key fob, tool kit, funnel, battery charger and propane hose. An official running cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The DuroMax XP16000iH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP16000iH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- Weighing 368 lbs, the DuroMax XP16000iH is one of the heaviest dual fuel generators within the 10000-14000 rated wattage bracket. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX, with a dry weight of only 209 lbs.
- With a lowest possible noise of 67 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the most quiet of the products delivering similar power.
- With a runtime of around 10.5 hours under a 50% load on a full tank, the XP16000iH falls within the average autonomy range among the dual fuel generators of a similar power. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the DuroStar DS14000iX, as it provides around 12.5 hours.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. Standing at an estimated 1.01 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, this inverter generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.69 GPH, the DuroMax XP15000HX+ is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-14000W dual fuel inverter generators, the DuroMax XP16000iH is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
