Zoom on the DuroMax XP16000iH
In summary, the DuroMax XP16000iH is a powerful portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Prudent homeowners who want a full backup power source in case of a power outage
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP16000iH provides 120/240V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 13,000W and a starting wattage of 16,000W. When propane-powered, it offers 12,350 running watts and 15,200 starting watts. The impressive running wattage makes this unit one of the biggest inverter generators currently on the market. Moreover, the parallel capability (parallel kit not included) enables increasing of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.
DuroMax’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
With a noise rating of 67 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), the inverter generator's starting mechanism is centered around an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included). The XP16000iH can also be remotely started, offering further convenience (key fob included).
In terms of running time, the XP16000iH, equipped with a 10.6 gallons fuel tank, is capable of running continuously for around 10.5 hours at 50% load on a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 1.01 gallons per hour). When utilizing propane, it provides around 3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH) of operation.
With a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the XP16000iH delivers a clean sine wave, essential for safeguarding your delicate electronics when plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features 6 AC outlets as follows:
The unit features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.
Portability
With its enclosed inverter generator design (L38.3 x W30.8 x H34.4 in), the DuroMax XP16000iH offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Since the generator weighs 368 lbs, it could be potentially be difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its set of 4 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
Designed with a digital data center, the control panel of the XP16000iH grants you access to crucial data on the lifetime run hours, frequency, voltage and power output, ensuring practical monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will notify you if the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and its oil levels are insufficient.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
The XP16000iH also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the DuroMax XP16000iH is bundled with additional accessories: battery charger, key fob, tool kit, propane hose and funnel. An official running cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The DuroMax XP16000iH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP16000iH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- At 368 lbs, the DuroMax XP16000iH stands out as one of the heaviest dual fuel generators rated from 10000 to 14000 watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX, with a dry weight of only 209 lbs.
- At just 67 dBA rated noise level, this inverter generator is positioned as one of the quietest choices among devices delivering similar type and power.
- Thanks to an impressive running time of around 10.5 hours at 50% load, the XP16000iH benefits from a higher run time than many dual fuel generators of a similar output. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP15000HX shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling around 12 hours.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. At a 50% load, the inverter generator consumes an estimated 1.01 gallons of gasoline per hour, falling within the average consumption range of units with similar output. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the DuroMax XP15000HX+ is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.69 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-14000W dual fuel inverter generators, the DuroMax XP16000iH is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
