Zoom on the DuroMax XP16000iH
In a nutshell, the DuroMax XP16000iH is a powerful portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Prudent homeowners who want a backup power source in case of a power outage
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile DuroMax XP16000iH provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 13,000W along with a peak wattage of 16,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 12,350 rated watts and 15,200 starting watts. The impressive running wattage makes this unit the biggest inverter generator currently on the market. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.
Enjoying a noise rating of 67 dBA (less noisy than background music), this inverter generator gets running thanks to a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). For additional convenience, the XP16000iH may also be remotely started (key fob included).
As for its running time, the XP16000iH, along with its 10.6 gallons fuel capacity, can run for around 10.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.01 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for around 3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH).
Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the XP16000iH generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 6 AC outlets:
The unit features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.
Portability
Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L38.3 x W30.8 x H34.4 in), the DuroMax XP16000iH, is more esthetical than a typical, open frame generator. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 368 pounds. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its set of 4 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
A digital data center, one of the features of the XP16000iH's control panel, gives you information on the frequency, voltage, power output and lifetime run hours, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, some light indicators allow you to instantly see if the generator is overloaded, the generator is ready and its oil levels are insufficient.
The inverter generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
The XP16000iH also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP16000iH, the following accessories are also included: tool kit, battery charger, funnel, key fob and propane hose.
Emissions
The DuroMax XP16000iH is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.
However, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP16000iH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP16000iH compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- A weight of 368 lbs makes the DuroMax XP16000iH one of the heavier devices in the 10000-14000 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, with a dry weight of just 218 pounds.
- With a lowest noise rating of 67 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the most quiet of the generators of similar power.
- The XP16000iH provides a higher run time than similarly powerful devices, reaching around 10.5 hours at 50% load. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, as it provides around 15 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. As this inverter generator uses an estimated 1.01 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, it finds itself in the average gasoline consumption range of similar products. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.78 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-14000W generators, the DuroMax XP16000iH is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
