Zoom on the DuroMax XP15000HXT
In summary, the DuroMax XP15000HXT is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
The DuroMax XP15000HXT delivers 120/240V and benefits from a tri-fuel technology that allows it to run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When gasoline-powered, it enjoys a running wattage of 12,000W and a peak wattage of 15,000W. When propane-powered, it benefits from 11,400 rated watts and 14,250 peak watts. Its natural gas operation offers 10,260W of rated wattage and 12,825W of starting wattage.
Enjoying a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a shower), this generator can be started thanks to a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism, but also to an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included). Additionally, the XP15000HXT may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the XP15000HXT, with a 13.2 gallons fuel tank, can operate for around 12 hours at 50% load with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 1.1 gallons per hour). It also offers around 2.8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.68 GPH) of operation when using propane.
As the XP15000HXT exhibits a THD of less than 12%, which is relatively high, it is best avoided for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 13 AC outlets:
Even if this DuroMax generator isn't quite RV Ready, it still allows for an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor, thanks to its L5-30R receptacle. Besides, as the XP15000HXT holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.
Portability
At L36 x W33.2 x H32 in, the standard open frame design of the DuroMax XP15000HXT delivers stability alongside easy maintenance access to components and good air cooling. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Even at 362 lbs, the generator is categorized as 'portable,' suggesting its movability, although its weight impede its portability. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit (⌀13") and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
Designed with a digital data center, the control panel of the XP15000HXT grants you access to crucial data on the fuel level, voltage, lifetime run hours, frequency and power output, ensuring practical monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator serves to show you when its oil levels are insufficient.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The XP15000HXT also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the DuroMax XP15000HXT also includes several accessories: key fob, propane hose, funnel, tool kit and natural gas hose with NPT adapter.

The DuroMax XP15000HXT versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP15000HXT compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- Tipping the scales at 362 lbs, the DuroMax XP15000HXT qualifies as one of the heavier options among multi-fuel generators rated between 10000 and 14000 watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the DuroStar DS13000MX is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 209 pounds.
- The generator can be considered average in its noise for its type and power category, as it is rated at 78 dBA. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may want to take a look at the Genmax GM12500iET. It's one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, rated at 62 dBA.
- The XP15000HXT provides one of the highest run time among similarly powerful multi-fuel devices, reaching around 12 hours at 50% load.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. In terms of fuel efficiency within its wattage range, this generator falls short: it consumes approximately 1.1 GPH at a 50% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the WEN TF1450X, with a fuel consumption of 0.68 GPH could be in your good books.

We used our duromax 15000 tri during the ice/snow storm here in South Georgia. Power was out for the days and it was very cold. Started it up and hooked up our conversion line to the breaker box. Had lights, heat, h/w,frigs etc… worked great. Thank you duro max
