Description
Zoom on the DuroMax XP15000HXT
In short, the DuroMax XP15000HXT is a powerful portable generator adequately designed for:
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
The DuroMax XP15000HXT delivers 120/240V and benefits from a tri-fuel technology that allows it to run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When gasoline-powered, it enjoys a running wattage of 12,000W and a peak wattage of 15,000W. When propane-powered, it benefits from 11,400 rated watts and 14,250 peak watts. Its natural gas operation offers 10,260W of rated wattage and 12,825W of starting wattage.
The generator features a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and also an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 78 dBA (less noisy than a shower). In addition, the XP15000HXT also supports remote starting, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
The XP15000HXT, with a fuel capacity of 13.2 gallons, reaches a run time of around 12 hours at 50% load utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.1 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of around 2.8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.68 GPH) with propane.
The quite high THD (<12%) of the XP15000HXT makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 13 AC outlets:
While not classified as 'RV Ready,' this DuroMax generator can still provides the advantage of RV connection via its L5-30R receptacle, ensuring power supply to your RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as the XP15000HXT holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.
Portability
With dimensions of L36 x W33.2 x H32 in, the traditional open frame design of the DuroMax XP15000HXT ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Since the generator weighs 362 lbs, it could be potentially be difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, the limited maneuverability is remedied with its wheel kit (⌀13") and its folding handle, facilitating convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
To help you monitor the XP15000HXT's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a digital data center, giving you information on the voltage, lifetime run hours, frequency, power output and fuel level.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will notify you if the oil level is too low.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, offering peace of mind throughout operation.
The XP15000HXT also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP15000HXT, the following accessories are also included: propane hose, natural gas hose with NPT adapter, tool kit, funnel and key fob.

The DuroMax XP15000HXT versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP15000HXT compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- Weighing 362 lbs, the DuroMax XP15000HXT is one of the heavier multi-fuel generators within the 10000-14000 rated wattage bracket. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Genmax GM12000XiT is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 194 pounds.
- As this generator can emit noise as low as 78 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Genmax GM13500iETC, whose lowest noise levels reach just 62 dBA.
- With a run time of around 12 hours at 50% load, the XP15000HXT has one of the highest run times, compared to its similarly powerful peers.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. This generator is not fuel-efficient compared to devices of similar output: its estimated fuel consumption stands at 1.1 GPH at a 50% load. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the WEN TF1450X. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.68 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-14000W multi-fuel generators, the DuroMax XP15000HXT is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
We used our duromax 15000 tri during the ice/snow storm here in South Georgia. Power was out for the days and it was very cold. Started it up and hooked up our conversion line to the breaker box. Had lights, heat, h/w,frigs etc… worked great. Thank you duro max
