Description
Zoom on the DuroMax XP15000HXT
In summary, the DuroMax XP15000HXT is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:
- Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
The DuroMax XP15000HXT delivers 120/240V and features a tri-fuel technology, granting it the capability to utilize gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When utilizing gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 12,000W and a peak wattage of 15,000W. Upon switching to propane, it benefits from 11,400 rated watts and 14,250 peak watts. Transitioning to natural gas operation provides 10,260W of rated wattage and 12,825W of starting wattage.
Operating with a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a shower), this generator offers two starting options: a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). The XP15000HXT can also be remotely started, offering further convenience (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 13.2 gallons, the XP15000HXT can operate for around 12 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.1 GPH), or for around 2.8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.68 GPH) using propane.
As the XP15000HXT has a relatively high THD (<12%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 13 AC outlets:
Despite not meeting the 'RV Ready' criteria, this DuroMax generator grants the advantage of simple RV compatibility via its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to conveniently power your RV by using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, with its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP15000HXT is designed to be transfer switch ready, allowing easy connection to your breaker box for powering your home during a blackout.
Portability
With a size of L36 x W33.2 x H32 in, the DuroMax XP15000HXT features an open frame design, providing stability and simplified maintenance access to components, enhancing air circulation. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Despite its weight of 362 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀13") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
Featuring a digital data center on its control panel, the XP15000HXT offers you convenient access to essential information about the frequency, fuel level, lifetime run hours, voltage and power output, facilitating effective monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, the device's light indicator will illuminate to indicate if its oil levels are insufficient.
In terms of security, the generator features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during its use.
The XP15000HXT also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the DuroMax XP15000HXT also includes several accessories: propane hose, funnel, tool kit, natural gas hose with NPT adapter and key fob.

The DuroMax XP15000HXT versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP15000HXT compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- With a weight of 362 lbs, the DuroMax XP15000HXT sits in the heavier end of the spectrum among multi-fuel generators rated from 10000 to 14000 watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX with only 209 pounds.
- Since the generator's noise is rated at 78 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar type and power. If you are concerned with noise, check out the DuroMax XP16000iHT, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 67 dBA.
- At 50% load, the XP15000HXT boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful multi-fuel products, reaching around 12 hours. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Predator 13000 could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching around 12.1 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. Among generators of similar output, this generator ranks somewhat poorly in fuel efficiency, with an estimated consumption of 1.1 GPH at a 50% load. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the WEN TF1450 is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.68 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-14000W multi-fuel generators, the DuroMax XP15000HXT is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
