Description
Zoom on the DuroMax XP15000EH
To sum up, the DuroMax XP15000EH is a powerful portable generator tailored for professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment..
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
The DuroMax XP15000EH, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120/240V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 12,000W and a starting wattage of 15,000W. On propane, it provides 11,400 running watts and 14,250 starting watts.
At a noise rating of 83 dBA (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal), the generator is started via a practical and straightforward electric starter (battery included).
With a fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons, the XP15000EH can operate for around 8 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.33 GPH), or for around 2.7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.74 GPH) using propane.
Since the XP15000EH has a somewhat high THD (<12%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 7 AC outlets:
This DuroMax generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, since the XP15000EH bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.
Portability
With dimensions of L30 x W33 x H35 in, the standard open frame design of the DuroMax XP15000EH provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While technically classified as 'portable' due to its ability to be moved, the 380 lbs of this generator make manual lifting and transportation incredibly difficult. Nevertheless, thanks to its wheel kit (⌀12") and its folding handle (a decent solution to its lack of maneuverability), the generator can be easily moved, once placed the ground.
The generator comes with an additional safety feature, a lift hook on the top of its frame, which is helpful during its transport, loading and unloading.
Features
The control panel of the XP15000EH includes a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will signal if its oil levels are insufficient.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during operation.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the DuroMax XP15000EH is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, propane hose and funnel.

The DuroMax XP15000EH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP15000EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- A weight of 380 lbs makes the DuroMax XP15000EH one of the heaviest dual fuel devices in the 10000-14000 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX, with a dry weight of only 209 lbs.
- In comparison to generators with a similar running wattage, this generator's lowest emitted noise of 83 dBA can be considered noisy. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the DuroMax XP16000iH is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 67 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- Regarding its autonomy, the autonomy of the XP15000EH, reaching around 8 hours at a 50% load, can be considered as low end, compared to other dual fuel products of a roughly equal output. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the DuroMax XP15000HX, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting around 12 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. In terms of fuel efficiency within its wattage range, this generator falls short: it consumes approximately 1.33 GPH at a 50% load. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the DuroMax XP13000HX is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.98 gallons per hour.
Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

User Reviews
This has been a reliable and trustworthy generator that I use for whole home backup. The only concern that I have is finding parts for it. The owners manual does not give you a list of part numbers for things like oil filters, air filters, brushes, etc. and the parts installed on the generator have no markings or part numbers either.
