Description
Zoom on the DuroMax XP15000EH
In summary, the DuroMax XP15000EH is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the DuroMax XP15000EH allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 12,000W and a starting wattage of 15,000W. If propane-powered, it gives 11,400 rated watts and 14,250 starting watts.
At a noise rating of 83 dBA (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal), the generator is started via a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).
With a fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons, the XP15000EH can operate for around 9 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.18 GPH), or for around 3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH) using propane.
Since the XP15000EH has a somewhat high THD (<12%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 7 AC outlets:
This DuroMax generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as the XP15000EH holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.
Portability
The design of the DuroMax XP15000EH is a typical, open frame, with the dimensions of L30 x W33 x H35 in, offering support and stability and enabling the possibility of raising it above ground level. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 380 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
The generator comes with an additional safety feature, a lift hook on the top of its frame, which is helpful during its transport, loading and unloading.
Features
The XP15000EH and its control panel include a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if the oil level is too low.
Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the DuroMax XP15000EH also comes with some accessories: tool kit, propane hose and funnel are included.
Emissions
The DuroMax XP15000EH is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and thus, may be used in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP15000EH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP15000EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- Considering its dry weight of 380 pounds, the DuroMax XP15000EH is one of the heavier dual fuel generators producing between 10000 and 14000 running watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Pulsar PG13000BRCO, with a dry weight of just 231 pounds.
- When compared to devices able to produce a similar running wattage, this generator and its lowest emitted noise of 83 dBA is on the noisier side. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the DuroMax XP13000EH. With just 74 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- Given that the XP15000EH reaches an autonomy of around 9 hours with a full tank and at 50% load, it is placed within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful dual fuel generators. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Westinghouse WGen12000DF, as it provides around 11 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This generator is somewhat less fuel efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 1.18 GPH at a 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.95 GPH, the Westinghouse WGen12000DF is a device you could look out for.
Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-14000W dual fuel generators, the DuroMax XP15000EH is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- Dual Fuel
- Decent run time
- No recoil back-up
- No remote start
- On the heavy side (380 lbs)
- On the noisy side (83 dBA)
- Low fuel efficiency

User Reviews
This has been a reliable and trustworthy generator that I use for whole home backup. The only concern that I have is finding parts for it. The owners manual does not give you a list of part numbers for things like oil filters, air filters, brushes, etc. and the parts installed on the generator have no markings or part numbers either.
