Description
Zoom on the DuroMax XP15000EH
In summary, the DuroMax XP15000EH is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure.
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile DuroMax XP15000EH provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 12,000W along with a peak wattage of 15,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 11,400 rated watts and 14,250 starting watts.
The generator is rated for a noise of 83 dBA (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal). Its starting mechanism is based on a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).
The XP15000EH, with a fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons, reaches a run time of around 8 hours at 50% load utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 1.33 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of around 2.7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.74 GPH) with propane.
The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the XP15000EH is not recommended due to its relatively high THD (<12%).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 7 AC outlets:
This DuroMax generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, because the XP15000EH is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.
Portability
The dimensions of the DuroMax XP15000EH, which are L30 x W33 x H35 in, and its typical, open frame design provides stability and enables the generator to be raised above ground level. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Since the generator weighs 380 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀12") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
In addition, the device is equipped with a lift hook on the top of its frame, which provides extra safety during the loading, unloading and transport of the generator.
Features
To help you monitor the XP15000EH's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicator will display if its oil levels are insufficient.
The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP15000EH, the following accessories are also included: propane hose, tool kit and funnel.
Emissions
The DuroMax XP15000EH is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP15000EH versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP15000EH compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- Considering its dry weight of 380 pounds, the DuroMax XP15000EH is one of the heavier dual fuel generators producing between 10000 and 14000 running watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Pulsar PG13000BRCO with only 231 pounds.
- When compared to devices able to produce a similar running wattage, this generator and its lowest emitted noise of 83 dBA is on the noisier side. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Westinghouse WGen12000DF, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 74 dBA.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing around 8 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 50% load, the XP15000EH falls into the low end in comparison with other dual fuel devices of a comparable power output. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Westinghouse WGen12000DF, as it provides around 11 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank’s capacity and thus, doesn’t say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This generator is rather wasteful, compared to other devices within the aforementioned output range, when it comes to gasoline consumption, as it reaches roughly 1.33 GPH at a 50% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Westinghouse WGen12000DF, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.95 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-14000W dual fuel generators, the DuroMax XP15000EH is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
The bottom line
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- Dual Fuel
- On the expensive side
- No recoil back-up
- No remote start
- On the heavy side (380 lbs)
- On the noisy side (83 dBA)
- Relatively low run time
- Low fuel efficiency

User Reviews
This has been a reliable and trustworthy generator that I use for whole home backup. The only concern that I have is finding parts for it. The owners manual does not give you a list of part numbers for things like oil filters, air filters, brushes, etc. and the parts installed on the generator have no markings or part numbers either.
