Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000X

In summary, the DuroMax XP13000X is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment.

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.

Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP13000X in use

The DuroMax XP13000X

The DuroMax XP13000X's core is the 500 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120/240V, it provides a running wattage of 10,500W and a peak wattage of 13,000W.

At a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher), this generator provides the choice between a simple traditional pull-start mechanism or an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included) for starting.

Thanks to a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, the XP13000X can operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.98 GPH).

Since the XP13000X has a somewhat high THD (<12%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Even though this DuroMax generator isn't quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle allows an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP13000X is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.

Portability

At L30 x W29 x H26 in, the DuroMax XP13000X boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.

Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 240 pounds. However, the limited maneuverability is remedied with its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, facilitating convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.

Features

The XP13000X's control panel

The XP13000X's status and activity may be monitored conveniently via the control panel, as it features a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.

In addition to this info, a light indicator serves to show you when its oil levels are insufficient.

The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.

From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), ensuring peace of mind during operation.

The XP13000X also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the DuroMax XP13000X's package also includes these accessories: tool kit and funnel.

The DuroMax XP13000X versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000X compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • At 240 lbs in dry weight, the DuroMax XP13000X fits well within the typical weight bracket for generators producing 10000 to 11000 rated watts. Weight-conscious users may find the DuroStar DS13000MX appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 209 pounds.
  • This generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its power range, rated at 74 dBA. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 69 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
  • The XP13000X's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its power range, as it reaches only around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, boasting with around 15 hours.
  • While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. This generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 0.98 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.78 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
