Description

Introducing the XP130000HXT Tri Fuel generator that America has been waiting for. With 13,000 watts of peak power, this unit will run on Gasoline, Propane, or NATURAL GAS and stands alone as the largest Tri Fuel portable generator on the market! (source: DuroMax (opens in a new tab))

Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000HXT

In summary, the DuroMax XP13000HXT is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:

  • Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP13000HXT in use

The DuroMax XP13000HXT

The DuroMax XP13000HXT delivers 120/240V and benefits from a tri-fuel technology that allows it to run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When gasoline-powered, it enjoys a running wattage of 10500W and a peak wattage of 13000W. When propane-powered, it benefits from 9500 rated watts and 12000 peak watts. Its natural gas operation offers 8500W of rated wattage and 10000W of starting wattage.

The generator is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the XP13000HXT can also be remotely started (key fob included).

Regarding its running time, the XP13000HXT, with a 8.3 gallons fuel capacity can operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.98 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 3.2 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.47 GPH).

As the XP13000HXT has a relatively high THD (<12%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

While this DuroMax generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as the XP13000HXT holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.

Portability

The DuroMax XP13000HXT has the following dimensions: L30 x W29 x H26 in. In combination with its conventional, open frame design, they provide support and allow the generator to be raised above ground level. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Since the generator weighs 240 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its wheel kit and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.

Features

The XP13000HXT's control panel

Monitoring of the XP13000HXT's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the lifetime run hours, frequency, fuel level, voltage and power output and is one of the features of its control panel.

In addition to this info, the device’s light indicator will display if the oil level is too low.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

The XP13000HXT also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes. It’s a welcomed additional security feature, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside (opens in a new tab).

While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP13000HXT, the following accessories are also included: funnel, propane hose, tool kit, key fob and natural gas hose with NPT adapter.

Emissions

The DuroMax XP13000HXT is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP13000HXT versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000HXT compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • Regarding its weight, the DuroMax XP13000HXT only weighs in at 240 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter generators in the 10000-11000 rated wattage range. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, weighing just 218 pounds.
  • Because this generator emits noise as low as 74 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 69 dBA.
  • Autonomy-wise, with around 8.5 hours on a full tank at a 50% load, the XP13000HXT is on the low end when compared to other generators of a similar power output. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Powerhorse 13000ES, with around 15 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator is somewhat less fuel efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 0.98 GPH at a 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.78 GPH, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI is a device you could look out for.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroMax XP13000HXT is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
