Description

Introducing the XP130000HXT Tri Fuel generator that America has been waiting for. With 13,000 watts of peak power, this unit will run on Gasoline, Propane, or NATURAL GAS and stands alone as the largest Tri Fuel portable generator on the market! (source: DuroMax (opens in a new tab))

Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000HXT

In summary, the DuroMax XP13000HXT is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:

  • Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP13000HXT in use

The DuroMax XP13000HXT

The DuroMax XP13000HXT delivers 120/240V and benefits from a tri-fuel technology that allows it to run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When gasoline-powered, it enjoys a running wattage of 10,500W and a peak wattage of 13,000W. When propane-powered, it benefits from 9,500 rated watts and 12,000 peak watts. Its natural gas operation offers 8,500W of rated wattage and 10,000W of starting wattage.

With a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), the generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). The XP13000HXT can also be remotely started, offering further convenience (key fob included).

With a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, the XP13000HXT can operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.98 GPH), or for around 3.2 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.47 GPH) using propane.

The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the XP13000HXT is not recommended due to its relatively high THD (<12%).

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

This DuroMax generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP13000HXT is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.

Portability

The DuroMax XP13000HXT has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L30 x W29 x H26 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 240 lbs. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

The XP13000HXT's control panel

A digital data center, one of the features of the XP13000HXT's control panel, gives you information on the fuel level, power output, voltage, lifetime run hours and frequency, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.

In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if the oil level is too low.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).

The XP13000HXT also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.

Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the DuroMax XP13000HXT also is packed along with the following accessories: natural gas hose with NPT adapter, tool kit, key fob, funnel and propane hose.

Emissions

The DuroMax XP13000HXT is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP13000HXT versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000HXT compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • Regarding its weight, the DuroMax XP13000HXT only weighs in at 240 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter generators in the 10000-11000 rated wattage range. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 218 pounds.
  • As this generator can emit noise as low as 74 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 69 dBA.
  • Autonomy-wise, with around 8.5 hours on a full tank at a 50% load, the XP13000HXT is on the low end when compared to other generators of a similar power output. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Powerhorse 13000ES, reaching around 15 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 0.98 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the A-iPower SUA13000EFI. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.78 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-11000W multi-fuel generators, the DuroMax XP13000HXT is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
