Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000HX
To sum up, the DuroMax XP13000HX is a powerful portable generator tailored for professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure..
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP13000HX provides a 120/240V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 10,500W and a starting wattage of 13,000W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 9,975 running watts and 12,350 starting watts.
With a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher), the generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included).
In terms of run time, the XP13000HX, boasting a 8.3 gallons fuel tank, can run for around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.98 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides around 3.2 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.47 GPH) of operation with propane.
Since the XP13000HX has a somewhat high THD (<12%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 7 AC outlets:
While this DuroMax generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, with its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP13000HX is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
At L29 x W30 x H26 in, the DuroMax XP13000HX boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While technically classified as 'portable' due to its ability to be moved, the 240 lbs of this generator make manual lifting and transportation incredibly difficult. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
The control panel of the XP13000HX includes a convenient meter, offering voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours readings, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator shows you if its oil levels are insufficient.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The XP13000HX also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the DuroMax XP13000HX also includes several accessories: funnel, tool kit and propane hose. An official storage cover and a suitable running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The DuroMax XP13000HX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000HX compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- With a dry weight of 240 lbs, the DuroMax XP13000HX sits comfortably within the expected weight range for devices generating 10000 to 11000 rated watts. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the DuroStar DS13000MX is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 209 pounds.
- As this generator can emit noise as low as 74 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If you are concerned with noise, check out the Genmax GM12500iET, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 62 dBA.
- In terms of autonomy, the XP13000HX offers around 8.5 hours at a 50% load, placing it at the lower range within its power range. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Genmax GM15000ET, which is able to run for around 11 hours.
- Though run time is a significant parameter, it's closely tied to the generator's fuel tank size. To get a comprehensive understanding, fuel efficiency must also be taken into account. This generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.98 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the WEN TF1300iX, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.93 GPH.

User Reviews
The generator looks good and works very good. However, I’m of the opinion that We purchase a Monday Morning assambled one! Our HX 13000 XP smokes none stop.
We were told that it could have oil In the muffler. To keep running it….. How did oil got to the muffler? Remains Unanswered.
Cant afford to do that. So we are looking to returned it….
I went online to see how to break in an engine on a portable generator. I looked at several links and they all practically said the same thing. After running the engine for an hour I changed the oil. It was dirty. Second hour not so dirty. I even did it another hour and it was pretty clean. The 4th hour I put a load on the engine. I never had a problem with the oil getting on the frame because I tilted the the front of the unit towards the rear about a half inch and to the oil drain side about the same. I have since ran the unit for several more hours with no problems. I’m buying a line conditioner to use for sensitive items. I already have USP battery backup units to run my computers on. It’s a great unit. I’m happy with it.
I recently purchased this generator to power my house and business. I opened the box, installed the wheels, front legs, and handles, removed the red shipping engine brace, connected the negative battery cable, and added oil. The generator comes with pot-metal tools, but honestly use your own.
I broke the generator in on propane for 15 mins, alternating a small 1500 watt load for a few minutes off and on (stator heat cool cycles). Then changed oil. Changing the oil is messy (gets on the frame/engine brace) but I guess that is normal for generators.
The engine (push button) fired right up without an effort, and the generator is very easy to operate. The start push button is also the stop button (just hold it in till it starts blinking). This generator is loud, but it is 13Kw and an open frame design.
The oil dipstick threading is M27-3.0. I ordered a magnetic dipstick in that thread pitch, and it fit perfectly.
