Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000E
In a nutshell, the DuroMax XP13000E is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure.
Power & Run Time
The DuroMax XP13000E's engine, 500 cc (20 hp) DuroMax OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120/240V. It provides a running wattage of 10500W and reaches a peak wattage of 13000W.
With a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), the generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).
The XP13000E can operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.98 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons.
The XP13000E is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its relatively high THD (<12%).
The control panel features the following 5 AC outlets:
In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.
While this DuroMax generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, because the XP13000E is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.
The DuroMax XP13000E has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L29 x W30 x H26 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Since the generator weighs 232 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). Nevertheless, thanks to its wheel kit and its folding handle (a decent solution to its lack of maneuverability), the generator can be easily moved, once placed the ground.
The XP13000E and its control panel include a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicator will display if the oil level is too low.
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP13000E, the following accessories are also included: battery charging cables, funnel and tool kit. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
The DuroMax XP13000E is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.
The DuroMax XP13000E versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000E compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- In terms of its dry weight, the DuroMax XP13000E stands at only 232 lbs, meaning that is one of the lighter devices of the 10000-11000 rated wattage category If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 218 pounds.
- Since the generator's noise is rated at 74 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the A-iPower SUA13000EFI. With just 69 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing around 8.5 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 50% load, the XP13000E falls into the low end in comparison with other devices of a comparable power output. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Powerhorse 13000ES, with around 15 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This generator is not fuel efficient compared to devices of similar output: its estimated fuel consumption stands at 0.98 GPH at a 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.78 GPH, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI is a device you should look out for.
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroMax XP13000E is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
