Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000E

In a nutshell, the DuroMax XP13000E is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.

In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP13000E houses a 500 cc (20 hp) DuroMax OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120/240V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 10,500W along with a peak wattage of 13,000W.

The generator is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher). Its starting mechanisms include a conventional pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

The XP13000E can operate for around 8 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 1.04 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons.

The quite high THD (<12%) of the XP13000E makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 5 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

This DuroMax generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, because the XP13000E is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

The design of the DuroMax XP13000E is a typical, open frame, with the dimensions of L29 x W30 x H26 in, offering support and stability and enabling the possibility of raising it above ground level. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.

Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 236 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

The XP13000E's control panel

The control panel of the XP13000E includes a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.

In addition to this info, a light indicator serves to show you when the oil level is too low.

A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.

As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the DuroMax XP13000E also comes with some accessories: tool kit, battery charging cables and funnel are included. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

Emissions

The DuroMax XP13000E is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP13000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000E compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • In terms of its dry weight, the DuroMax XP13000E stands at only 236 lbs, meaning that is one of the lighter devices of the 10000-11000 rated wattage category If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 218 pounds.
  • Because this generator emits noise as low as 74 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, whose lowest noise levels reach just 69 dBA.
  • As for its autonomy, the XP13000E, with an autonomy of around 8 hours at a 50% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, as it provides around 15 hours.
  • Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. In fact, this generator is not among the most fuel efficient, within the aforementioned wattage range : its estimated gasoline consumption at 50% load is around 1.04 GPH. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.78 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: DuroMax XP13000E vs DuroMax XP13000EH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroMax XP13000E is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
