Description

The XP13000DX is the largest and most powerful dual fuel generator in the DX Series, with 13,000 peak watts and 10,500 running watts. (source: DuroMax (opens in a new tab))

Zoom on the DuroMax XP13000DX

In a nutshell, the DuroMax XP13000DX is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.

In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The DuroMax XP13000DX in use

The DuroMax XP13000DX

The dual-fuel technology of the DuroMax XP13000DX allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 10,500W and a starting wattage of 13,000W. If propane-powered, it gives 9,975 rated watts and 12,350 starting watts.

The generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower).

The XP13000DX, with a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, reaches a run time of around 8.5 hours at 50% load utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.98 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of around 3.2 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.47 GPH) with propane.

The XP13000DX is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its relatively high THD (<12%).

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

This DuroMax generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP13000DX is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.

Portability

The dimensions of the DuroMax XP13000DX, which are L30 x W29 x H26 in, and its typical, open frame design provides stability and enables the generator to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

Since the generator weighs 240 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.

Features

The XP13000DX's control panel

To help you monitor the XP13000DX's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.

In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if the oil level is too low.

Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.

The XP13000DX also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the DuroMax XP13000DX also comes with some accessories: tool kit, funnel and propane hose are included.

Emissions

The DuroMax XP13000DX is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The DuroMax XP13000DX versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP13000DX compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • At a weight of 240 pounds, the DuroMax XP13000DX places in the expected weight range of the generators in the 10000-11000 rated wattage range. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, standing at just 218 lbs.
  • Since the generator's noise is rated at 74 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the A-iPower SUA13000EFI. With just 69 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • As far as autonomy is concerned, providing around 8.5 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 50% load, the XP13000DX falls into the low end in comparison with other devices of a comparable power output. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, which is able to run for around 15 hours.
  • Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. As this generator uses an estimated 0.98 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, it finds itself in the average gasoline consumption range of similar products. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, with a fuel consumption of 0.78 GPH could be in your good books.

Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-11000W generators, the DuroMax XP13000DX is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
