- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the DuroMax XP10000HX provides a 120/240V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 8,000W and a starting wattage of 10,000W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 7,600 running watts and 9,500 starting watts.
At a noise rating of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), this generator can be started via a conventional pull-start mechanism, or a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included).
In terms of running time, the XP10000HX, equipped with a 8.3 gallons fuel tank, is capable of running continuously for up to 22 hours on a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.83 gallons per hour). When utilizing propane, it provides up to 8.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.55 GPH) of operation.
As the XP10000HX has a relatively high THD (<12%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 7 AC outlets:
While not classified as 'RV Ready,' this DuroMax generator can still provides the advantage of RV connection via its L5-30R receptacle, ensuring power supply to your RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP10000HX is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Portability
Measuring L29 x W30 x H26 in, the classic open frame build of the DuroMax XP10000HX delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
With a weight of 228 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. Nevertheless, the restricted maneuverability is counteracted by its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, enabling easy shifting once the generator is set in place.
Features
The XP10000HX and its control panel include a convenient meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will notify you if the oil level is too low.
The built-in fuel gauge of the generator ensures simple and quick gas level assessments.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.
The XP10000HX also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the DuroMax XP10000HX, the following accessories are also included: tool kit, funnel and propane hose.

The DuroMax XP10000HX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP10000HX compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- With a weight of 228 lbs, the DuroMax XP10000HX is notably on the heavier side among dual fuel generators in the 7500-8500 rated wattage range. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Pulsar PGL9000BCO, standing at just 149 lbs.
- With noise emissions rated as low as 72 dBA, this generator falls within the typical noise range expected for devices of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the DuroMax XP9500iH, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 61 dBA.
- At a 50% load, the XP10000HX's around 10 hours of runtime on a full tank fall within the average autonomy range for similarly powerful dual fuel generators. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Firman H07553, which is able to run for around 12 hours.
- Though run time is a significant parameter, it's closely tied to the generator's fuel tank size. To get a comprehensive understanding, fuel efficiency must also be taken into account. In fact, this generator is not one of the most fuel-efficient options in the aforementioned wattage range: its estimated gasoline consumption at 50% load is around 0.83 GPH. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the Powerhorse s10500id, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.59 GPH.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel generators, the DuroMax XP10000HX is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
