Zoom on the DuroMax XP10000HX
In short, the DuroMax XP10000HX is a portable generator adequately designed for:
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile DuroMax XP10000HX provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 8,000W along with a peak wattage of 10,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 7,600 rated watts and 9,500 starting watts.
At a noise rating of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), this generator can be started via a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism, or a user-friendly and hassle-free electric starter (battery included).
In terms of its run time capability, the XP10000HX, furnished with a 8.3 gallons fuel tank, can maintain operations for up to 22 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.38 gallons per hour). It also provides up to 8.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.55 GPH) of operation with propane.
As the XP10000HX exhibits a THD of less than 12%, which is relatively high, it is best avoided for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 7 AC outlets:
Though it may not be labeled as 'RV Ready,' this DuroMax generator offers the benefit of hassle-free RV connectivity through its L5-30R receptacle, allowing you to easily power your RV with the assistance of an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, with its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the XP10000HX is designed to be transfer switch ready, allowing easy connection to your breaker box for powering your home during a blackout.
Portability
Measuring L29 x W30 x H26 in, the DuroMax XP10000HX showcases a classic open frame layout, offering stability and simple maintenance access to components, while facilitating air circulation. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
As the generator's weight is 228 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the XP10000HX is equipped with a convenient meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics, aiding in monitoring its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if its oil levels are insufficient.
Equipped with a built-in fuel gauge, the generator facilitates swift gas level checks.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during use.
The XP10000HX also benefits from DuroMax’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown. If CO levels become unsafe or rapidly increase, the generator will automatically shut down, an indicator will light red, and the engine will not restart for 5 minutes.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the DuroMax XP10000HX's package also includes these accessories: funnel, propane hose and tool kit.

The DuroMax XP10000HX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the DuroMax XP10000HX compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- With its weight of 228 lbs, the DuroMax XP10000HX is one of the heavier dual fuel generators in the 7500-8500 rated wattage category. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Pulsar PGL9000BCO is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 149 pounds.
- This generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its type and power range, rated at 72 dBA. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the DuroMax XP9500iH is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 61 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- At 25% load, the XP10000HX boasts one of the highest run times than most similarly powerful dual fuel products, reaching up to 22 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This generator can be considered as fuel-efficient, due to its low estimated fuel consumption of only 0.38 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.34 GPH, the DuroMax XP9500iH is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel generators, the DuroMax XP10000HX is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
