Description
Zoom on the Champion 201463
In summary, the Champion 201463 is a portable generator especially useful for:
- Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the Champion 201463 delivers 120/240V, and offers power and flexibility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 6,250W and a peak wattage of 7,850W. When powered by propane, it delivers 5,600 running watts and 7,050 peak watts.
Operating with a noise level of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher), the generator starts up via a manual recoil starter system.
With a fuel capacity of 7.7 gallons, the 201463 can operate for around 11 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.7 GPH), or for around 6.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.72 GPH) using propane.
The quite high THD (<20%) of the 201463 makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 5 AC outlets:
As it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the 201463 is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.
Portability
With dimensions of L28.2 x W27.2 x H25 in, the traditional open frame design of the Champion 201463 ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Since the generator weighs 166 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, the limited maneuverability is remedied with its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, facilitating convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the 201463 includes an Intelligauge meter, displaying voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours information.
Thanks to its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently, and easily check the gas level at a glance.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation. Champion's built-in surge protector (Volt Guard™) safeguards your equipment and appliances against voltage spikes.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Champion 201463 also comes with some accessories: oil, propane hose and funnel are included. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201463 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201463 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 5500 and 6500 W).
- Tipping the scales at 166 lbs, the Champion 201463 qualifies as one of the heavier options among dual fuel generators rated between 5500 and 6500 watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO, standing at just 118 lbs.
- The generator can be considered average in its noise for its type and power category, as it is rated at 74 dBA. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO. With just 62 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- Compared to dual fuel devices of similar power, the 201463 stands out with one of the higher run times, lasting around 11 hours at 50% load. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Firman H05752 could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching around 12 hours.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. Compared to similar devices, this generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.7 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 50% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the DuroMax XP7000iH, with a fuel consumption of 0.38 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 5500-6500W dual fuel generators, the Champion 201463 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- Dual fuel

Can you run an electric dryer? (Asked February 20, 2021)
The approximate wattage required for starting an electric clothes dryer is 6750 watts and the approximate wattage for running it is 5400. If your dryer has similar wattages, and runs on 240V, the 100592 should be able to run it. Remember that these are approximate values. You should determine the actual running and starting watts of your appliance.
What type of gasoline can be used in this generator? should i be using non ethinol gas? (Asked June 05, 2022)
Gasoline should be clean, fresh, and unleaded with a minimum octane rating of 87 and an ethanol content of 10% or less by volume.
