Description
Zoom on the Champion 201463
In summary, the Champion 201463 is a portable generator especially useful for:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Champion 201463 delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 6,250W and a peak wattage of 7,850W. When propane-powered, it has 5,600 rated watts and 7,050 peak watts.
Operating with a noise level of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), the generator starts up via a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism.
With a fuel capacity of 7.7 gallons, the 201463 can operate for around 11 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.7 GPH), or for around 6.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.72 GPH) using propane.
Given the 201463's high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 20%, it is advisable to avoid using it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:
With its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the 201463 is designed to be transfer switch ready, allowing easy connection to your breaker box for powering your home during a blackout.
Portability
Measuring L28.2 x W27.2 x H25 in, the classic open frame build of the Champion 201463 delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Despite its weight of 166 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the 201463 includes an Intelligauge meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.
The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use. Champion's built-in surge protector (Volt Guard™) safeguards your equipment and appliances against voltage spikes.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Champion 201463 also comes with some accessories: funnel, oil and propane hose are included. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201463 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201463 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 5500 and 6500 W).
- At 166 lbs, the Champion 201463 stands out as one of the heavier dual fuel generators rated from 5500 to 6500 watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 118 pounds.
- Given its rated noise level of 74 dBA, this generator aligns with the average expected noise rating for devices of similar type and power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 62 dBA.
- Compared to dual fuel devices of similar power, the 201463 stands out with one of the higher run times, lasting around 11 hours at 50% load. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Firman H05752, boasting with around 12 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. Compared to similar devices, this generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.7 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the DuroMax XP7000iH, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.38 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 5500-6500W dual fuel generators, the Champion 201463 is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- Dual fuel
- CO Shield™ technology
- GFCI Outlets
- High run time
- Acceptable noise (74 dBA)
- No 50-amp output
- No electric start
- On the heavy side (166 lbs)
- Low fuel efficiency

Can you run an electric dryer? (Asked February 20, 2021)
The approximate wattage required for starting an electric clothes dryer is 6750 watts and the approximate wattage for running it is 5400. If your dryer has similar wattages, and runs on 240V, the 100592 should be able to run it. Remember that these are approximate values. You should determine the actual running and starting watts of your appliance.
What type of gasoline can be used in this generator? should i be using non ethinol gas? (Asked June 05, 2022)
Gasoline should be clean, fresh, and unleaded with a minimum octane rating of 87 and an ethanol content of 10% or less by volume.
