Power & Run Time

The Champion 201423 in use

The Champion 201423

The Champion 201423 delivers 120/240V and is equipped with a tri-fuel technology, enabling it to operate on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When powered by gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 9,000W and a peak wattage of 11,000W. Switching to propane provides 8,100 rated watts and 11,000 peak watts, while natural gas operation delivers 7,290W of rated wattage and 11,000W of starting wattage.

Operating with a noise rating of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), this inverter generator offers two starting options: a manual recoil starter system and a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included). To add further convenience, the 201423 can be remotely started (key fob included).

Regarding its running time, the 201423, with a 6.08 gallons fuel tank, can operate for up to 15 hours with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.41 gallons per hour). It also offers up to 8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.59 GPH) of operation when using propane.

Featuring a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the 201423 delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries.

If your RV requires a 50-amp service, consider this Champion unit RV-ready, as it includes a 14-50R outlet. In addition, thanks to its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the 201423 is transfer switch ready, facilitating easy hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.

Portability

The Champion 201423 is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L28.3 x W28.8 x H27.5 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.

Despite its 212.3 lbs, the generator falls under the category of 'portable,' signifying its movability, although its weight may hinder easy portability. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels (⌀8") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.

Features

The 201423's control panel

Featuring a digital Intelligauge data center on its control panel, the 201423 offers you convenient access to essential information about the frequency, voltage, power output and lifetime run hours, facilitating effective monitoring of its activity and status.

In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if the oil level is too low.

Equipped with a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator facilitates swift gas level checks.

From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), ensuring peace of mind during operation.

The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Champion 201423's package also includes these accessories: propane hose, key fob, natural gas hose with NPT adapter, funnel, oil and tool kit.

The Champion 201423 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201423 compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • Weighing in at 212.3 lbs, the Champion 201423 fits within the expected weight range for multi-fuel devices producing 8500 to 9500 rated watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 187.4 pounds.
  • Delivering a rated noise output as low as 64 dBA, this inverter generator is has a quieter operation that most units of similar type and power. If you value reduced noise levels, the DuroMax XP11000iH could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
  • The 201423's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only up to 15 hours at 25% load on a full tank. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Westinghouse iGen12000TFc could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching up to 19 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator can be considered as fuel-efficient, due to its low estimated fuel consumption of only 0.41 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, within the aforementioned wattage range. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the DuroMax XP11000iH, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.39 gallons per hour.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Champion 201423 vs Predator 11500.
