The Champion Power Equipment 201412 9200-Watt Tri-Fuel Portable Natural Gas Ready Generator with CO Shield® is a reliable source of power with the flexibility you need.
Zoom on the Champion 201412
In a few words, the Champion 201412 is a powerful portable generator perfectly suited for:
- Homeowners who wish to power almost all appliances in their house under any circumstances
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
The Champion 201412 delivers 120/240V and boasts with a tri-fuel technology enabling it to utilize gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When powered by gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 9,200W and a peak wattage of 11,500W. Upon using propane, it gains 8,500 rated watts and 10,625 peak watts. Its operation with natural gas provides 7,500W of rated wattage and 9,375W of starting wattage.
The generator, rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included).
The running time of the 201412, with its 8.5 gallons fuel capacity, can reach around 10 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.85 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.94 GPH).
Given the 201412's high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 20%, it is advisable to avoid using it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 6 AC outlets:
If your RV requires a 50-amp service, consider this Champion unit RV-ready, as it includes a 14-50R outlet. In addition, as the 201412 holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.
Portability
With dimensions of L28.7 x W27.5 x H26.1 in, the traditional open frame design of the Champion 201412 ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Despite its weight of 216 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀9.5") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
To help you monitor the 201412's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a digital Intelligauge data center, giving you information on the frequency, lifetime run hours and voltage.
The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Champion 201412 is bundled with additional accessories: propane hose, oil, natural gas hose with NPT adapter and funnel.

The Champion 201412 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201412 compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).
- With a dry weight of 216 lbs, the Champion 201412 sits comfortably within the expected weight range for multi-fuel devices generating 8500 to 9500 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, with a dry weight of only 187.4 lbs.
- Because this generator emits noise as low as 74 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If you are concerned with noise, check out the DuroMax XP11000iH, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 61 dBA.
- At a 50% load, the 201412's around 10 hours of runtime on a full tank fall within the average autonomy range for similarly powerful multi-fuel generators. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 12 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. In fact, this generator is not one of the most fuel-efficient options in the aforementioned wattage range: its estimated gasoline consumption at 50% load is around 0.85 GPH. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.66 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8500-9500W multi-fuel generators, the Champion 201412 is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

User Reviews
Ordered on July 14 and received on July 26. Tested and connected using natural gas on July 30. Solid built unit thru a respectable brand. Not a Honda but in comparison to other units at this price point ($998 post Beryl). It does have a higher THD and dBA than an inverter style but that’s to be expected for an ACR/non-inverter type. I’m very pleased so far.
