Zoom on the Champion 201408
To sum up, the Champion 201408 is a compact portable inverter generator tailored for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Champion 201408, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 4,000W and a starting wattage of 5,500W. On propane, it provides 3,600 running watts and 5,500 starting watts. In addition, the parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) empowers increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 61 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included). For additional convenience, the 201408 may also be remotely started (key fob included).
The running time of the 201408, with its 2.25 gallons fuel capacity, can reach up to 11 hours on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.2 GPH). With propane, it can reach up to 21 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.22 GPH).
The 201408 generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Champion generator is RV Ready.
Portability
Since the Champion 201408 is an inverter generator, its closed design (L23.5 x W18 x H20.1 in) not only provides an aesthetic advantage but also contributes to reduced noise levels compared to conventional, open frame devices. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
With a dry weight of 104 lbs, the 201408 can easily follow you wherever your power needs are. Moreover, once it’s on the ground, its set of 2 wheels (⌀5") and its folding handle will allow you to shift it without effort.
Features
Featuring a digital Intelligauge data center on its control panel, the 201408 offers you convenient access to essential information about the voltage, lifetime run hours, power output and frequency, facilitating effective monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will notify you if its oil levels are insufficient.
Thanks to its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows you to quickly, conveniently, and easily check the gas level at a glance.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Champion 201408 is bundled with additional accessories: oil, propane hose, tool kit, key fob and funnel. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201408 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201408 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At 104 lbs dry, the Champion 201408 is consistent with the standard weight profile for inverters ranging from 3500 to 4500 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the WEN 56432iX stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 52.9 pounds.
- With noise emissions rated as low as 61 dBA, this inverter generator falls within the typical noise range expected for devices of similar type and power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Westinghouse iGen5000DF with only 52 dBA.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 11 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the 201408 falls into the low end in comparison with other inverters of a comparable power output. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the Champion 200977 shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 22 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. The inverter generator utilizes approximately 0.2 GPH of gasoline at a 25% load, placing it within the typical range of fuel consumption seen in products of comparable wattage. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.16 GPH, the Champion 201319 is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 201408 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
I received this generator, the first one had issues. Champion stood behind their product and shipped me a new one. Hooked up the battery, filled the oil and ran iton propane.
Fired right off, super quite and more than enough for my home. Ref, furnace, freezer, lights, etc. Used barely over 1/3 power rating.
This should be a welcome item, when needed.
