Description
Zoom on the Champion 201351
In a nutshell, the Champion 201351 is a compact portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
The Champion 201351's engine, 224 cc OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120V. It provides a running wattage of 4,000W and reaches a peak wattage of 5,500W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.
The inverter generator features a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism. It is rated for a noise of 61 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation). Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.
With a fuel capacity of 3.7 gallons, the 201351 can run for up to 20 hours when the tank is full (fuel consumption is approximately 0.19 gallons per hour). Thanks to the Fuel Fill Assist LED, an ingenious LED located near the fuel cap, filling up the unit’s tank is highly facilitated in poor lighting conditions. The LED can illuminate the gasoline filling area simply by pushing a button.
Delicate electronics can be plugged in the AC outlets safely, as the 201351 generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features the following 5 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT standing for 'Travel Trailer'), this Champion generator is RV Ready, perfectly suited for powering recreational vehicles.
Portability
With its enclosed inverter generator design (L24.6 x W19 x H20.9 in), the Champion 201351 offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
Though weighing 109.1 lbs, the generator remains classified as 'portable,' indicating its capability to be moved, though its weight could pose transport challenges. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its folding handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
A digital Intelligauge data center, one of the features of the 201351's control panel, gives you information on the lifetime run hours, frequency, voltage and power output, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will notify you if the oil level is too low.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Champion 201351 also comes with some accessories: oil and funnel are included. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201351 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201351 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At 109.1 lbs dry, the Champion 201351 is consistent with the standard weight profile for inverters ranging from 3500 to 4500 rated watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN 56432iX, standing at just 52.9 lbs.
- The inverter generator's noise output, rated at 61 dBA, falls within the average range expected for devices in its type and power range. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 52 dBA.
- At 25% load, the 201351 boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful inverters, reaching up to 20 hours. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Firman WH03662OF, as it provides up to 25 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This inverter generator can be considered as fuel-efficient, due to its low estimated fuel consumption of only 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Champion 201319, with a fuel consumption of 0.16 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W inverter generators, the Champion 201351 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
This generator powers my travel trailer with 2 ACs very well. I also use it as a home backup for everything but the home AC and the electric oven. I have almost 200 hours on it so far with no issues.
I’m very impressed with this generator. I’ve owned several different generators, and I would rate this one as the best! Quite, powerful, with great features.
