The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 201351 in use

The Champion 201351

The Champion 201351 is powered by a 224 cc OHV 4-stroke engine. It delivers 120V, runs on gasoline and offers a running wattage of 4,000W as well as a peak wattage of 5,500W. Moreover, the parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) allows for increasing of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and reliability for diverse needs.

The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 61 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office). Its starting mechanism is based on a simple traditional pull-start mechanism. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.

Thanks to its 3.7 gallons fuel tank, the 201351 can run continuously for up to 20 hours on a full tank (with an average fuel consumption of approximately 0.19 GPH). Thanks to the Fuel Fill Assist LED, an ingenious LED located near the fuel cap, filling up the unit’s tank is highly facilitated in poor lighting conditions. The LED can illuminate the gasoline filling area simply by pushing a button.

The 201351 generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Champion generator is RV Ready.

Portability

With its enclosed inverter generator design (L24.6 x W19 x H20.9 in), the Champion 201351 offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.

With a dry weight of 109.1 lbs, the 201351 can easily follow you wherever your power needs are. Moreover, once it’s on the ground, its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its folding handle will allow you to shift it without effort.

Features

Panel of the Champion 201351

The 201351's control panel

One of the many 201351's features is the digital Intelligauge data center, included in its control panel, which conveniently provides information on the lifetime run hours, power output, voltage and frequency and thus, helps you monitor its activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.

In addition to this info, the generator's light indicator provides visual feedback when the oil level is too low.

From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), ensuring peace of mind during operation.

The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Champion 201351's package also includes these accessories: oil and funnel. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201351 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201351 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).

  • Weighing in at 109.1 lbs, the Champion 201351 fits within the expected weight range for inverters producing 3500 to 4500 rated watts. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the WEN 56432iX is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 52.9 pounds.
  • This inverter generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its type and power range, rated at 61 dBA. If you are concerned with noise, check out the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 52 dBA.
  • Compared to inverters of similar power, the 201351 stands out with one of the higher run times, lasting up to 20 hours at 25% load. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Champion 200977, which is able to run for up to 22 hours.
  • While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is a rather fuel-efficient one within its wattage category. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the Champion 201319, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.16 gallons per hour.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W inverter generators, the Champion 201351 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

This generator powers my travel trailer with 2 ACs very well. I also use it as a home backup for everything but the home AC and the electric oven. I have almost 200 hours on it so far with no issues.
