Zoom on the Champion 201323

In a few words, the Champion 201323 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator perfectly suited for:

  • Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
  • Amateur DIY lovers

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 201323 in use

The Champion 201323

Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Champion 201323 provides 120V, as well as versatility and power. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 1,850W and a peak wattage of 2,500W. Alternatively, when fueled by propane, it offers 1,665 running watts and 2,500 peak watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) enables doubling of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.

The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb). Its starting mechanism is based on a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.

In terms of its run time capability, the 201323, furnished with a 1.1 gallon fuel tank, can maintain operations for up to 11.5 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.1 gallons per hour). It also provides up to 25 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.19 GPH) of operation with propane.

Featuring a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the 201323 delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel features 2 AC outlets as follows:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

Portability

Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L17.6 x W12.8 x H18.1 in), the Champion 201323 not only offers superior aesthetics but also operates with reduced noise levels compared to a typical, open frame generator. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.

At just 43.2 lbs, the 201323 is notably lightweight, making it an excellent choice for portable power. It's easy for one person to move around, ensuring power availability on the move. The inclusion of a handle (molded in the case) makes carrying it a breeze, adding to its convenience.

Features

The 201323's control panel

With a digital Intelligauge data center integrated into its control panel, the 201323 provides real-time insights into the lifetime run hours, power output, voltage and frequency, enabling easy monitoring of its status and activity.

In addition to this info, the generator's light indicator provides visual feedback when its oil levels are insufficient.

The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the inverter generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.

The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.

Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Champion 201323 also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, funnel, propane hose and oil. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201323 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201323 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • As far as its dry weight is concerned, the Champion 201323 weighs just 43.2 pounds and thus, it is one of the lighter 1500 to 2500 rated wattage inverter generators. If you are mindful of weight, the Genmax GM2000i is among the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 34.2 pounds.
  • With a noise rating as low as 53 dBA, this inverter generator is among the quieter options available in its type and power range. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Honda EU2200i. With just 48 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • At 25% load, the 201323 boasts a higher run time than most similarly powerful inverters, reaching up to 11.5 hours. For those prioritizing autonomy, the DuroMax XP2300iH could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching up to 13 hours.
  • Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. Among devices of similar power, this inverter generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Westinghouse iGen2800c. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.08 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 201323 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

    Great generator for van life

    + PROS:
    • This has been a very good generator for me because I live in my van and over the winter it has kept me from freezing. I love my duel fuel generator and will probably buy another one in the future to run in parallel with my rv . I recommend this great product
    - CONS:
    • The pull rope is the only weak spot on it. As I have replaced it 3 x in 6 months. But I am completely satisfied with the proformace of this product
