Zoom on the Champion 201323

In a nutshell, the Champion 201323 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:

  • Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
  • DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 201323 in use

The Champion 201323

Delivering 120V, the Champion 201323 is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 1,850W and a starting wattage of 2,500W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 1,665 running watts and 2,500 starting watts. Additionally, as the generator is parallel capable (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included), it can be linked to a second unit for more power.

The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a refrigerator). Its starting mechanism is based on a conventional pull-start mechanism. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.

In terms of its run time capability, the 201323, furnished with a 1.1 gallon fuel tank, can maintain operations for up to 11.5 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.1 gallons per hour). It also provides up to 25 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.19 GPH) of operation with propane.

The 201323 produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

It also sports 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

Portability

As the Champion 201323 is an inverter generator, its encased design (L17.3 x W12.8 x H18.1 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.

The 201323's weight, at just 43.2 lbs, makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a lightweight and portable generator. Designed for easy mobility, one person can move it around without any difficulty, ensuring power on the go. Its handle (molded in the case) makes carrying it a simple task, further enhancing its convenience.

Features

Panel of the Champion 201323

The 201323's control panel

For easy status and activity monitoring of the 201323, its control panel integrates a digital Intelligauge data center, offering insights into the frequency, lifetime run hours, voltage and power output.

In addition to this info, the device’s light indicator will display if its oil levels are insufficient.

The built-in fuel gauge of the inverter generator ensures simple and quick gas level assessments.

As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.

The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Champion 201323 also comes with some accessories: propane hose, tool kit, oil and funnel are included. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201323 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201323 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • When it comes to weight, the Champion 201323 tips the scales at just 43.2 pounds, making it one of the lighter inverter generators in the 1500 to 2500 rated wattage range. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Genmax GM2000i is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 34.2 pounds.
  • With a lowest possible noise of 53 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the more quiet of the products delivering similar power. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the Honda EU2200i appealing. It's rated at 48 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
  • As the 201323 features an autonomy of up to 11.5 hours at 25% load, it has a higher run time than an average generator of its type and power range. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP2300iH shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 13 hours.
  • Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. Among devices of similar power, this inverter generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the DuroMax XP2300iH, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.08 GPH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 201323 is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

    Great generator for van life

    + PROS:
    • This has been a very good generator for me because I live in my van and over the winter it has kept me from freezing. I love my duel fuel generator and will probably buy another one in the future to run in parallel with my rv . I recommend this great product
    - CONS:
    • The pull rope is the only weak spot on it. As I have replaced it 3 x in 6 months. But I am completely satisfied with the proformace of this product
