Zoom on the Champion 201183
In a nutshell, the Champion 201183 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
- Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Champion 201183 provides 120V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 1,850W and a starting wattage of 2,500W. When propane-powered, it offers 1,665 running watts and 2,500 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) allows for doubling of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and reliability for diverse needs.
At a noise rating of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a conversation at home), the inverter generator is started via a manual recoil starter system. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.
In terms of run time, the 201183, boasting a 1.1 gallon fuel tank, can run for up to 11.5 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.1 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides up to 34 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.14 GPH) of operation with propane.
The 201183 generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 2 AC outlets:
Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease. With the unit, you will also find a dual port USB adapter, allowing for the convenient charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets using the DC receptacle.
Portability
As the Champion 201183 is an inverter generator, its encased design (L17.3 x W12 x H17.7 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
With a weight of only 39 lbs, the 201183 is deisgned to be a lightweight and easily portable generator. As it can be moved by a single person without much effort, the generator and its power can be enjoyed on-the-go. In addition, a handle (molded in the case) lets you carry it easily and further increases its convenience.
Features
Light indicators on the device will signal if the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is overloaded.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Champion 201183 is bundled with additional accessories: dual port USB adapter, propane hose, funnel and oil. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201183 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201183 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Weight-wise, the Champion 201183 has only 39 lbs, which renders it one of the lighter inverter generators which produce 1500 to 2500 rated watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Genmax GM2000i is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 34.2 pounds.
- With noise levels starting from 53 dBA rating, this inverter generator stands out as one of the quieter options among products of similar type and power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Honda EU2200i. With just 48 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- In terms of run time, the 201183 surpasses similarly powerful inverters, boasting one of the higher run times at up to 11.5 hours. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP2300iH shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 13 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This inverter generator has a better fuel efficiency than other units in the aforementioned output range, consuming approximately 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the DuroMax XP2300iH, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.08 GPH.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 201183 is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
