Description
Zoom on the Champion 201183
In summary, the Champion 201183 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
- Amateur DIY lovers
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Champion 201183 provides 120V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 1,850W and a starting wattage of 2,500W. When propane-powered, it offers 1,665 running watts and 2,500 starting watts. Furthermore, its parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) allows power output to double when connected to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
Enjoying a noise rating of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a conversation at home), this inverter generator gets running thanks to a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.
The 201183, with a fuel capacity of 1.1 gallon, reaches a run time of up to 11.5 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.1 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 34 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.14 GPH) with propane.
The 201183 ensures a clean sine wave output, boasting <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to protect your sensitive electronics when connected to its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 2 AC outlets:
Moreover, it comes equipped with 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease. Since a dual port USB adapter is also included with the unit, you will be able to use the DC receptacle to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.
Portability
The Champion 201183 is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L17.3 x W12 x H17.7 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
With its weight totaling only 39 lbs, the 201183 stands out as a lightweight generator. It's easy for one person to move around, ensuring power availability on the move. With its handle (molded in the case), carrying it becomes a breeze, adding to its convenience.
Features
The device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is on overload.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Champion 201183's package also includes these accessories: oil, propane hose, dual port USB adapter and funnel. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201183 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201183 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Regarding its weight, the Champion 201183 only weighs in at 39 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter inverter generators in the 1500-2500 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of only 34.2 lbs.
- Given its rated noise level of 53 dBA, this inverter generator aligns with the average expected noise rating for devices of similar type and power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Honda EU2200i is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 48 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- Among its inverters with similar power, the 201183 offers one of the higher run times, running for up to 11.5 hours at 25% load. If wyou wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP2300iH shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 13 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. This inverter generator is one of the more fuel-efficient options in its power range, consuming approximately 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen2800, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.08 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 201183 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
