Zoom on the Champion 201183
In short, the Champion 201183 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Amateur DIY lovers
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the Champion 201183 allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 1,850W and a starting wattage of 2,500W. If propane-powered, it gives 1,665 rated watts and 2,500 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) enables doubling of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.
With a noise rating of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb), the inverter generator's starting mechanism is centered around a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.
The 201183, with a fuel capacity of 1.1 gallon, reaches a run time of up to 11.5 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.1 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 34 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.14 GPH) with propane.
The 201183 generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 2 AC outlets:
Moreover, it presents 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle making battery charging a breeze. Since a dual port USB adapter is also included with the unit, you will be able to use the DC receptacle to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.
Portability
The Champion 201183's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L17.3 x W12 x H17.7 in) provides an aesthetic advantage and contributes to quieter operation compared to any ordinary, open frame product. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
Weighing just 39 lbs, the 201183 can be considered a lightweight portable generator. It's easy for one person to move around, ensuring power availability on the move. In addition, a handle (molded in the case) lets you carry it easily and further increases its convenience.
Features
Several light indicators serve to show you when the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and the oil level is too low.
From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during operation.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the Champion 201183 features extra accessories: oil, propane hose, funnel and dual port USB adapter. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 201183 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201183 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- As far as its dry weight is concerned, the Champion 201183 weighs just 39 pounds and thus, it is one of the lighter 1500 to 2500 rated wattage inverter generators. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of only 34.2 lbs.
- With a noise rating as low as 53 dBA, this inverter generator is among the quieter options available in its type and power range. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Honda EU2200i. With just 48 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- As the 201183 features an autonomy of up to 11.5 hours at 25% load, it has a higher run time than an average generator of its type and power range. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the DuroMax XP2300iH, which is able to run for up to 13 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the DuroMax XP2300iH, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.08 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 201183 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
