Zoom on the Champion 201155
The Champion 201155 is the newer version of the 200993. It's a compact portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Champion 201155's engine, 212 cc OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120V. It provides a running wattage of 3,650W and reaches a peak wattage of 4,650W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.
Enjoying a noise rating of 61 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), this inverter generator can be started thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also to a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need. Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the 201155 can also be remotely started (key fob included).
The fuel capacity of 2.3 gallons allows the 201155 to operate for up to 14 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.16 GPH).
Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the 201155 generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries. Since a dual port USB adapter is included with the unit, you will also be able to use the DC receptacle to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Champion generator is RV Ready.
Portability
Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L23.2 x W17.7 x H20.1 in), the Champion 201155, is more esthetical than a typical, open frame generator. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 101 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its set of 2 wheels (⌀5") and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.
Features
A digital Intelligauge data center, one of the features of the 201155's control panel, gives you information on the lifetime run hours, power output, frequency and voltage, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, a light indicator serves to show you when the oil level is too low.
The inverter generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Champion 201155 also is packed along with the following accessories: key fob, dual port USB adapter, funnel and oil.
Emissions
The Champion 201155 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.
The unit also meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Champion 201155 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201155 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With a dry weight of 101 pounds, the Champion 201155 finds itself in the expected weight range for inverter generators able to produce between 3500 and 4500 rated watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN GN400i, standing at just 66.1 lbs.
- Because this inverter generator emits noise as low as 61 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Westinghouse iGen4500DF. With just 52 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- Regarding its autonomy, the autonomy of the 201155, reaching up to 14 hours at a 25% load, can be considered as low end, compared to other inverters of a roughly equal output. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Firman W03661OF, with up to 25 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This inverter generator can be considered as one of the most fuel efficient, due to its low estimated fuel consumption of only 0.16 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, within the aforementioned wattage range.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 3500-4500W inverter generators, the Champion 201155 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
Currently fighting getting this _brand new_ generator… Have worked with their tech support and haven’t gotten anywhere. Had to disconnect the low oil sensor to even get as far as I have… Generator runs for one second and shuts off, nothing plugged in. This is the worst pile of junk I have ever bought.
I have never been able to get this inverter generator to run with a substantial load. It does not maintain voltage and trips every time. I can’t even get it to run a 1500 watt heat gun on the 120 outlet without tripping. Champion told me that the heat gun is too much for the 120 outlet that I needed to buy an adapter and use the 30 amp outlet. I explained that I cannot put any substantial load on the generator using either outlet. They wanted me to send another video. I explained I have owned many generators and I can run my 1500 watt heat gun on all my generators using the 120 outlets with no issues. My 2000 watt generator has no problem running the 1500 watt heat gun. This is a 4650 watt generator! There is no reason why it shouldn’t run 1500 watt appliance. I don’t have time to go back and forth. I need a product that works! I am returning the product and will never buy a champion product again.
