Description
Zoom on the Champion 201119
The Champion 201119 is the newer version of the 200969. It's a compact portable generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Champion 201119 utilizes a 224 cc OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120V, offering a running wattage of 3,650W and a starting wattage of 4,550W.
Operating with a noise level of 68 dBA (less noisy than background music), the generator starts up via a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism.
Thanks to a fuel capacity of 4.7 gallons, the 201119 can operate for around 14 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.34 GPH).
Given the 201119's high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 20%, it is advisable to avoid using it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Champion generator is RV Ready.
Portability
Measuring L23.2 x W18.3 x H20 in, the classic open frame construction of the Champion 201119 provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
As the generator's weight is 103 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable).
Features
For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the 201119 includes an Intelligauge meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.
Thanks to its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently, and easily check the gas level at a glance.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use. Champion's built-in surge protector (Volt Guard™) safeguards your equipment and appliances against voltage spikes.
The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Champion 201119, the following accessories are also included: oil and funnel.

The Champion 201119 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201119 compare to generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 103 lbs, the Champion 201119 belongs in the expected weight range for devices which can produce between 3500 and 4500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC, weighing just 58.4 pounds.
- When compared to other units producing a similar running wattage, this generator and its lowest emitted noise of 68 dBA stand out for being on the louder side. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the Westinghouse iGen4500DF appealing. It's rated at 52 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
- Compared to devices of similar power, the 201119 stands out with one of the higher run times, lasting around 14 hours at 50% load. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Predator 4375, with around 16 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This generator has a better fuel efficiency than other units in the aforementioned output range, consuming approximately 0.34 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.23 GPH, the Westinghouse iGen4500DF is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W generators, the Champion 201119 is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- CO Shield™ technology
- Several accessories included
- RV Ready
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Decent weight (103 lbs)
- No electric start
- On the noisy side (68 dBA)
