Description

Zoom on the Champion 201052

In summary, the Champion 201052 is a portable generator especially useful for:

  • RV travellers looking for even more independence
  • People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
  • Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 201052 in use

The Champion 201052

With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile Champion 201052 provides an output of 120V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,800W along with a peak wattage of 4,750W. While propane-powered, it provides 3,420 rated watts and 4,275 starting watts.

With a noise rating of 68 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), the generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).

With a fuel capacity of 4.5 gallons, the 201052 can operate for around 14 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.32 GPH), or for around 10.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.45 GPH) using propane.

The 201052 is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its high THD (<20%).

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 4 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

This Champion generator is RV Ready, as it features a TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').

Portability

The Champion 201052 has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L24.7 x W25 x H22.2 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.

Since the generator weighs 123 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The 201052's control panel

The control panel of the 201052 includes an Intelligauge meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.

Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it. Champion's built-in surge protector (Volt Guard™) safeguards your equipment and appliances against voltage spikes.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Champion 201052's package also includes these accessories: propane hose, funnel and oil.

Emissions

The Champion 201052 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The Champion 201052 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201052 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).

  • At a dry weight of 123 pounds, the Champion 201052 is one of the heavier dual fuel devices which can produce between 3500 and 4500 running watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the WEN DF402iX, with a dry weight of only 66.1 lbs.
  • Because this generator emits noise as low as 68 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, whose lowest noise levels reach just 52 dBA.
  • Since the 201052 boasts with a run time of around 14 hours at 50% load, it can be safely judged as a device of a higher run time than most dual fuel generators of a comparable output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, boasting with around 15 hours.
  • Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.32 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, is one of the more fuel efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.23 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the Champion 201052 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

It was easy to finish putting it together . I put it together from a handi cap scooter seat . I followed the instructions . When I was finnished rolled outside the garage on driveway and turned on choke it started right up just like it was suppose to. Very happy with the purchase would differently recommend the Champion generator

    + PROS:
    • I did not have any problem pulling the generator out of shipping box and installing wheels and removing shipping straps put in oil and gas and plugged in battery .It started right up . I did all this from a handicap scooter . I haven't been able to walk in 6 years . It was not that difficult it probably took me longer than most people but it was possible to do even in my condition . Very happy with the purchase. Richard Jones
    - CONS:
    • The Generator was a little heavy but I had read the specifications and was prepared . Other than that I am very happy with the purchase would recommend.
