Description
Zoom on the Champion 201052
In a nutshell, the Champion 201052 is a portable generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Champion 201052 delivers 120V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 3,800W and a peak wattage of 4,750W. When propane-powered, it has 3,420 rated watts and 4,275 peak watts.
The generator, rated for a noise of 68 dBA (less noisy than an office), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).
In terms of running time, the 201052, equipped with a 4.5 gallons fuel tank, is capable of running continuously for around 14 hours at 50% load on a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.32 gallons per hour). When utilizing propane, it provides around 10.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.45 GPH) of operation.
Considering its high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 20%, it is not recommended to rely on the 201052 for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT standing for 'Travel Trailer'), this Champion generator is RV Ready, perfectly suited for powering recreational vehicles.
Portability
At L24.7 x W25 x H22.2 in, the traditional open frame structure of the Champion 201052 ensures stability while facilitating convenient maintenance access to components and promoting air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
With a weight of 123 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
Included in the control panel of the 201052 are an Intelligauge meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics, essential for monitoring its status and activity.
The built-in fuel gauge of the generator ensures simple and quick gas level assessments.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use. Champion's built-in surge protector (Volt Guard™) safeguards your equipment and appliances against voltage spikes.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Champion 201052's package also includes these accessories: propane hose, oil and funnel.

The Champion 201052 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201052 compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Tipping the scales at 123 lbs, the Champion 201052 qualifies as one of the heavier options among dual fuel generators rated between 3500 and 4500 watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN DF402iX, standing at just 66.1 lbs.
- When stacked up against other devices of similar running wattage, this generator's lowest possible noise rating of 68 dBA places it in the louder category. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Westinghouse iGen4500DF. With just 52 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- With a run time of around 14 hours at 50% load, the 201052 has one of the higher run times, compared to its similarly powerful peers. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Westinghouse iGen4500DF could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 15 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. Among devices of similar power, this generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.32 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.23 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the Champion 201052 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
