Power & Run Time

The Champion 201050 in use

The Champion 201050

With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile Champion 201050 provides an output of 120V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,000W along with a peak wattage of 4,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 2,700 rated watts and 4,000 starting watts. In addition, as it is parallel capable (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included), this power can be doubled when linked to another similar or compatible unit.

Operating with a noise level of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), the inverter generator starts up via a manual recoil starter system. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.

In terms of its run time capability, the 201050, furnished with a 1.54 gallon fuel tank, can maintain operations for up to 10 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.15 gallons per hour). It also provides up to 25 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.19 GPH) of operation with propane.

The 201050 ensures a clean sine wave output, boasting <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to protect your sensitive electronics when connected to its AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.

The inclusion of a TT-30R receptacle (TT for 'Travel Trailer') makes this Champion generator RV Ready, ideal for providing power to recreational vehicles.

Portability

As the Champion 201050 is an inverter generator, its encased design (L17.9 x W11.7 x H19.7 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.

The 201050's dry weight of 51.8 lbs lets you use its power anywhere needed. Moreover, the 201050's convenient handle (molded in the case) makes shifting it an easy task, greatly improving grip.

Features

The 201050's control panel

Some light indicators allow you to instantly see if the generator is overloaded, the generator is ready and the oil level is too low.

The built-in fuel gauge of the inverter generator ensures simple and quick gas level assessments.

In terms of security, the generator features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during its use.

The unit also benefits from the CO Shield™ technology, which monitors accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas produced by the engine's exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield™ detects elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine and illuminates a red LED.

While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Champion 201050, the following accessories are also included: oil, funnel and propane hose. An official running cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The Champion 201050 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 201050 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • Considering its weight, the Champion 201050 registers at a modest 51.8 pounds, placing it among the lighter inverter generators in the 2500 to 3500 rated wattage selection. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, standing at just 46 lbs.
  • When comparing it to devices with a similar running wattage, this inverter generator's lowest noise level of 64 dBA puts it alongside the noisier units. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Honda EU3000iS is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 50 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
  • As for its runtime, the 201050 runs for up to 10 hours at a 25% load, placing it towards the low end among comparable inverters. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Champion 200914, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting up to 22 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. Among generators of similar power, this inverter generator stands out with a better fuel efficiency than most, with consumption rates around 0.15 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Energizer eZV3500P, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.13 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
