  • Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 200962 in use

The Champion 200962

Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Champion 200962 delivers 120V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 1,850W and a peak wattage of 2,500W. When propane-powered, it has 1,665 rated watts and 2,500 peak watts. In addition, as it is parallel capable (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included), this power can be doubled when linked to another similar or compatible unit.

Enjoying a noise rating of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb), this inverter generator gets running thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism. Champion’s EZ Start Dial lets you intuitively start the engine with easy access to all the controls you need.

The 200962, with a fuel capacity of 1.1 gallon, reaches a run time of up to 11.5 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.1 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 34 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.14 GPH) with propane.

Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the 200962 generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.

Portability

As the Champion 200962 is an inverter generator, its encased design (L17.3 x W11.5 x H17.7 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.

With a weight of only 39 lbs, the 200962 may be viewed as a lightweight and portable generator. The device can be easily moved by just one person and thus, its power may be enjoyed on-the-go. In addition, a handle (molded in the case) lets you carry it easily and further increases its convenience.

Features

The 200962's control panel

Several light indicators serve to show you when the oil level is too low, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Champion 200962 also comes with several accessories, including: funnel, propane hose and oil. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Champion 200962 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 200962 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • Regarding its weight, the Champion 200962 only weighs in at 39 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter inverter generators in the 1500-2500 rated wattage range. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Genmax GM2000i with only 34.2 pounds.
  • Since the inverter generator's noise is rated at 53 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Honda EU2200i, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 48 dBA.
  • Since the 200962 boasts with a run time of up to 11.5 hours at 25% load, it can be safely judged as a device of a higher run time than most inverter generators of a comparable output. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the DuroMax XP2300iH, reaching up to 13 hours.
  • Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This inverter generator can be considered as fuel efficient, due to its low estimated fuel consumption of only 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, within the aforementioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the DuroMax XP2300iH. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.08 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 200962 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

    Great generator for van life

    + PROS:
    • This has been a very good generator for me because I live in my van and over the winter it has kept me from freezing. I love my duel fuel generator and will probably buy another one in the future to run in parallel with my rv . I recommend this great product
    - CONS:
    • The pull rope is the only weak spot on it. As I have replaced it 3 x in 6 months. But I am completely satisfied with the proformace of this product
