In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 100899 in use

The Champion 100899

The dual-fuel technology of the Champion 100899 allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 1,850W and a starting wattage of 2,500W. If propane-powered, it gives 1,665 rated watts and 2,500 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (ParaLink (opens in a new tab) not included) allows for doubling of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and reliability for diverse needs.

The inverter generator features a manual recoil starter system. It is rated for a noise of 53 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall).

The running time of the 100899, with its 1.1 gallon fuel capacity, can reach up to 11.5 hours on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.1 GPH). With propane, it can reach up to 34 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.14 GPH).

Featuring a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the 100899 delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

Furthermore, it showcases 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports perfect for conveniently charging mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.

Portability

With an inverter generator design, the Champion 100899 features a closed construction (L17.3 x W11.5 x H17.7 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.

With a weight of only 39.5 lbs, the 100899 is deisgned to be a lightweight and easily portable generator. A single person should have no trouble moving it around, ensuring power availability on the go. This convenience is further enhanced by its handle (molded in the case), which allows for easy carrying.

The Champion 100899 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 100899 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • When it comes to weight, the Champion 100899 tips the scales at just 39.5 pounds, making it one of the lighter inverter generators in the 1500 to 2500 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of just 34.2 pounds.
  • This inverter generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its type and power range, rated at 53 dBA. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Honda EU2200i, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 48 dBA.
  • At 25% load, the 100899 achieves one of the longer run times compared to inverters of similar power, sustaining operations for up to 11.5 hours. If runtime is a priority for you, the DuroMax XP2300iH stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing up to 13 hours of continuous use.
  • Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. Among devices of similar power, this inverter generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the DuroMax XP2300iH, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.08 GPH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Champion 100899 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

This generator running on Propane would not even start and run a dorm sized refrigerator that ran at 108 watts when running. Sure compressor startup would be much more then this but this is suppose to be a 2500 watt generator. Unit was NEW when first started the overload light continued to flash red even through it was reset to GREEN it would only last 2 seconds and back to flashing RED. Finally out of frustration we plugged up a FAN, , reset the overload, and the fan ran but was turning slow, so we did a voltage check on output 90 VAC ….. so we took the unit out of ECO mode and then eventually the fan started turning faster and we got to 122VAC. Maybe everything on this China Made unit needs to be broken in, including the stator… junk, they could not give me one and we retuned the unit we had just bought. Lesson Learned and now for festival season, we are late out the gate. thanks Champion !!!!
