In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Champion 100263 in use

The Champion 100263

The dual-fuel technology of the Champion 100263 allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3100W and a starting wattage of 3400W. If propane-powered, it gives 2790 rated watts and 3060 starting watts. In addition, the device is parallel capable (ParaLINK (opens in a new tab) not included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.

With a noise rating of 59 dBA (less noisy than rainfall), the inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

Regarding its running time, the 100263, with a 1.6 gallon fuel capacity can operate for up to 7.5 hours with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.21 GPH). When using propane, it can run for up to 14.5 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.32 GPH).

The 100263 produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.

This Champion generator is RV Ready, thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').

Portability

Since the Champion 100263 is an inverter generator, its closed design (L25.1 x W17.3 x H18.3 in) has an esthetical advantage over conventional, open frame devices. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.

The 100263's dry weight of 95.7 lbs lets you use its power anywhere needed. Furthermore, once placed on the floor, effortless displacement is possible thanks to its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its folding handle.

Several light indicators serve to show you when the generator is on overload, the oil level is too low and the generator is ready.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Champion 100263 also comes with some accessories: dual port USB adapter and propane hose are included.

Emissions

The Champion 100263 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

The Champion 100263 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Champion 100263 compare to generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • With a dry weight of 95.7 pounds, the Champion 100263 finds itself in the expected weight range for generators able to produce between 2500 and 3500 rated watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Generac GP3300i, with a dry weight of just 59.5 pounds.
  • As its lowest possible noise is rated at 59 dBA, this inverter generator qualifies as one of the more quiet of the products of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Honda EU3000iS. With just 50 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 7.5 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the 100263 falls into the low end in comparison with other devices of a comparable power output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Champion 200914, boasting with up to 22 hours.
  • While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank’s capacity and thus, doesn’t say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. In fact, this inverter generator is not among the most fuel efficient, within the aforementioned wattage range : its estimated gasoline consumption at 25% load is around 0.21 GPH. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.13 GPH, the Energizer eZV3500P is a device you could look out for.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 2500-3500W generators, the Champion 100263 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

Unlike many websites, we did our best to research each of the specs above. That being said, we are not immune to making the occasional mistake or omission. Should you notice any missing or incorrect values, don't hesitate to suggest improvements so we can address the issue.
* Propane runtime is our own estimation, based on a 20 lbs tank and NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs of propane = 1 gal of gasoline.

When mine ran right, I loved it. Unfortunately, in 2 years it had 3 different carbs. While calling into tech support, it was a 50/50 shot whether you would get good help or not. Twice I had knowledgeable techs who sent the parts I needed to repair it. The other time, I had to call in several times to reach anyone and the one I finally got thru to was a jerk. It would run off propane, but not on gas. That was the issue I was having. Same issue. Three times. I always ran non-ethanol gas and it was run regularly. When it ran, I felt it was easy on gas, quiet, and would fire my AC on the camper. The last time I called the warranty center, I never received the parts and the generator was later stolen. Best thing that happened to the generator was getting stolen. Hate that I need to replace it. Glad I don’t have anymore headaches.

    + PROS:
    • Portability, weight, noise, ability to use both gasoline and propane, price.
    - CONS:
    • Constant break down issues. Inconsistent warranty center assistance.
