Description

Equipped with InfoHub™ Portable Power, it lets you monitor vital information from the comfort of your home or office.

Zoom on the Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite

In a nutshell, the Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite is a portable generator mostly geared towards:

  • Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
  • Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite

The Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite houses a 420 cc Briggs & Stratton OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120/240V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 8000W along with a peak wattage of 10000W.

This generator can be started via a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

With a fuel capacity of 7.5 gallons, the 30679 Elite may run for around 9 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.83 GPH).

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

Because the 30679 Elite is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

The Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L34.8 x W22.3 x H26 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 224 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀12") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).

While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite, the following accessories are also included: battery charger and oil.

InfoHub™ Portable Power

The InfoHub™ app gives you real time information

Briggs & Stratton’s InfoHub™ Portable Power technology (opens in a new tab) allows you to monitor your unit’s vital information such as power usage, run time and fuel level in real time, and directly from your computer or smartphone (via the InfoHub app for iOS or Android).

Besides its monitoring features, InfoHub can also keep you informed about your 30679 Elite status and maintenance needs by sending you scheduled service reminders. It also lets you customize the way your generator communicates with you and can send notifications to your local certified dealer.

Emissions

The Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

However, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite compare to generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).

  • With its weight of 224 lbs, the Briggs & Stratton 30679 Elite is one of the heavier generators in the 7500-8500 rated wattage category. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Lifan LF8750iEPL, weighing just 185 pounds.
  • Regarding its autonomy, the autonomy of the 30679 Elite, reaching around 9 hours at a 50% load, can be considered as low end, compared to other products of a roughly equal output. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Firman H08053, reaching around 12 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This generator is not fuel efficient compared to devices of similar output: its estimated fuel consumption stands at 0.83 GPH at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Pulsar PG10000B16, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.55 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
