  • DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
  • Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
  • Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.

Power & Run Time

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart in use

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart

Running on gasoline, the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart operates with a 171 cc Briggs & Stratton OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, with a running wattage of 2,600W and a peak wattage of 3,000W. In addition, the parallel capability (PowerSmart parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) empowers doubling of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.

With a noise rating of 58 dBA (less noisy than a refrigerator), the inverter generator's starting mechanism is centered around a manual recoil starter system.

The fuel capacity of 1.5 gallon allows the P3000 PowerSmart to operate for up to 10 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.15 GPH).

The P3000 PowerSmart produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle

Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's a 12V 5A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries and a 5V USB port designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.

This Briggs & Stratton generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included). However, it is still not quite RV ready.

Portability

With an inverter generator design, the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart features a closed construction (L26 x W14 x H21 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.

As the P3000 PowerSmart's weight is only 84 lbs, it can follow you and your power needs anywhere. Moreover, its set of 2 wheels (⌀6") and its telecospic handle will allow you to easily shift it once it's on the ground.

Features

The P3000 PowerSmart's control panel

The P3000 PowerSmart's control panel is equipped with a digital StatStation™ data center, furnishing detailed information on the power output and lifetime run hours for you to easily track its activity and status.

In addition to this info, the light indicators show you if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.

A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the inverter generator.

The unit benefits from Briggs & Stratton’s Quiet Power Technology (QPT™), a feature designed to greatly improve its noise levels, emissions and fuel consumption. When the switch, located on the control panel, is turned ON, the engine speed increases as electrical loads are connected, and decreases as electrical loads are removed.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

Beyond the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to assist with setup, the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart ships with supplementary accessories: funnel, tool kit, RV adapter, battery charging cables and oil. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 84 lbs, the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart belongs in the expected weight range for inverters which can produce between 2500 and 3500 rated watts. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
  • With a lowest noise rating of 58 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the more quiet of the generators of similar type and power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Honda EU3000iS, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 50 dBA.
  • In terms of autonomy, the P3000 PowerSmart offers up to 10 hours at a 25% load, placing it at the lower range within its type and power range. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Champion 200914, with up to 22 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.15 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is a rather fuel-efficient one within its wattage category. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Energizer eZV3500P, with a fuel consumption of 0.13 GPH could be in your good books.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart vs Honda EU3000iS.
