In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart in use

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart houses a 171 cc Briggs & Stratton OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 2600W along with a peak wattage of 3000W. In addition, the device is parallel capable (PowerSmart parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.

The inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism. It is rated for a noise of 58 dBA (less noisy than a refrigerator).

Thanks to a fuel capacity of 1.5 gallon, the P3000 PowerSmart can operate for up to 10 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.15 GPH).

Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the P3000 PowerSmart produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD).

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle

In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's a 12V 5A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries and a 5V USB port with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.

This Briggs & Stratton generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).

Portability

Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L26 x W14 x H21 in), the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart, is more esthetical than a typical, open frame generator. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.

With a dry weight of 84 lbs, the P3000 PowerSmart can easily follow you wherever your power needs are. Furthermore, once placed on the floor, effortless displacement is possible thanks to its set of 2 wheels (⌀6") and its telecospic handle.

Features

The P3000 PowerSmart's control panel

A digital StatStation™ data center, one of the features of the P3000 PowerSmart's control panel, gives you information on the lifetime run hours and power output, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.

In addition to this info, when the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and its oil levels are insufficient, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.

The inverter generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.

The unit benefits from Briggs & Stratton’s Quiet Power Technology (QPT™), a feature designed to greatly improve its noise levels, emissions and fuel consumption. When the switch, located on the control panel, is turned ON, the engine speed increases as electrical loads are connected, and decreases as electrical loads are removed.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart's package also includes these accessories: battery charging cables, oil, funnel, RV adapter and tool kit. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

Emissions

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart is neither EPA approved nor CARB-compliant..

However, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 84 lbs, the Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart belongs in the expected weight range for inverters which can produce between 2500 and 3500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM3300i, weighing just 47.4 pounds.
  • With a lowest possible noise of 58 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the more quiet of the products delivering similar power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Honda EU3000iS with only 50 dBA.
  • The P3000 PowerSmart's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only up to 10 hours at 25% load on a full tank. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Champion 200914, boasting with up to 22 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.15 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, is one of the more fuel efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.13 GPH, the Energizer eZV3500P is a device you could look out for.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Briggs & Stratton P3000 PowerSmart vs Honda EU3000iS.
